Can somebody please tell me how Kurt Warner went from the scrap heap to,according to some, now being the greatest QB in Cardinal history? Look back at the "great" half year he had last year.
We'll start in week 5:
St.Louis 3-13 (w), 21st ranked pass defense
Was 9-7,playoff team (L) 16th ranked pass defense
TB 9-7,playoff team (L) #1 ranked pass defense
Det 7-9,(w) #31
Cin 7-9 (w) #26
SF 5-11(L) #21
Cle 10-6(w) hey, he beat a good team, #24
Sea 10-6,playoff team (L) #19
NO 7-9(L) #30
Atl 4-12(w) #23
Stl 3-13 (w) #21

so all his "great" numbers were against bottom half pass defenses and most were bottom third. Let's see what he did against the top 3 defenses he faced

Against TB 10/30 172 Yards 0TD 2 INT qb rating 26
Against Was 27/41 282Yards 2TD 2INT rating 81.6
Against Sea 28/46 337 yards 3TD 5 INT rating 65.5

so in his 3 games against playoff teams he had 5 TD's and 9 int's and that's not including the fumbles. I don't think those numbers are anything that leads me to believe he is the better QB than Leinart. Matt may stink it up but give him the chance.

Based on this logic...Romo is a bad QB because eh plays poorly against all good defenses...and chokes in the playoffs. We can't afford to give Matt a chance...

Secondly....Warner played with 1 ARM!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus...He was handing off backwards with his opposite hand! He also led us to 5-3 record 2nd half...and if Rackers could make a FG we would have been 10-6. 55 yds or not....There are many Kickers who made that same kick last year.

ANd Matt MAY succeed....Warner did! That is why in EVERY FANTASY FOOTBALL bOOK in Publication...they have Warner as a higher pick then Lienart AND say that Boldins and Fitz stats would be higher if Warner starts. Are all those experts wrong??

Well, forgive me. If the fantasy football magazines say so, then Whiz is a buffoon for not playing Warner. I think Eric Karabell should be coaching the Cards.

Two things:

1. Warner has been good for 0.5 out of the last 8 seasons.

2. If Matt Leinart doesn't get us to the playoffs there is always next year. If Warner doesn't make it to the playoff then you are starting all over with Matt next year, who will probably be more than a little P.O.'d and his confindence will be in the toilet.

The Cardinals would be taking a HUGE risk starting Warner, and would be banking on a big run this run. If Warner starts this team can't be thinking playoffs it must be thinking Superbowl.

As I have said before, I don't care who starts but the team better be ready for a long run if Warner starts.

We will see at the end of the year....I'll bet my paycheck Matt struggles. Fanatsy Stats usually mean good Football player. LOL how can you disagree.....Maybe a handful and I say a small handful succeed and have a weak fantasy impact. Manning, Brady, Hassleback...all top Fantasy QB's...and I bet you would take all 3 of them too.

It reflects how poor our QB play has been for decades more than anything. And, I really liked how tough Warner was last year and how many TDs he threw.

That said, Leinart needs to start. It's better for the team if he's good starter. Like I've said a couple of times, Warner could maybe start this year and get us into the playoffs, but it could actually be worse for the team the long run.

It stands to reason that QB's would struggle against top defenses. Otherwise they wouldn't be top defenses.

Go back to getting ready for your big game against Youngstown State. :p

Meanwhile I'm getting fired up for our huge game against Florida Atlantic. :D

Makes sense.

Nobody should discount how well Warner played last year. He was solid. If Matty stinks it up for two or three games, Warner needs to go in for at least a game or two.

Hollywood deserves every chance and a little more to prove he can be a good NFL QB. It's too hard to find good QBs in this league. But if he consistently struggles this year, we need to face the fact that he's probably not the answer.

I know one things for sure........

It's about time for some football. To give you an idea of how long our off season was. I was talking to my boss after the reg. season ended and explained my sadness. I told him I could make (if possible) my wife preggers and have the baby before the season started again.

Man, we are in a good situation right now, no need to pinpoint where we're going to mess up before it doesn't even start. Bad Karma IMO.

What do fantasy football points have to do with wins and losses? I don't care who starts at QB this year. I'm going to let the head coach and staff decide and I'll back whom ever it is. Whiz said he's going to start the QB that gives the team the best chance to WIN and that doesn't necessarily mean the guy that can throw the most TD passes. If our defense is as good as I think its going to be, they will be the reason we win. The offense just has to play smart and capitalize on the opponents mistakes.

I do that every year. And every year the Cards go 5-11 or every once in a great while 7-9 or 8-8. Then that genius of a head coach gets fired and never gets another NFL HC job and slips off into obscurity.

But then maybe this time things will be different. I sure hope so.

If MAtt goes out on opening day and throws for 365 yds , 3td's and 0 picks leading us to a 31 -10 romp, just what the hell will we argue about on Monday?

I feel like weighing in on a 7/13 thread...
There is a common presumption that if #7 does not start, or is benched after starting, that he is done. (psychologically ruined, confidence destroyed etc) I disagree with this assumption. It is possible, but it is far from certain. Imagine #13 missing time later in the season due to injury, a young QB with 20 starts under his belt could come back in and lead the team. It is possible. Notice I am not saying who I think should start, I just don't believe it's a given that #7 is too fragile to recover from this scenario. I also think the coaches know a lot more than I do. (just not nearly as much as some other fans)

being the dallas fan I am I'll respond to romo. and I won't make this all about dallas, I'll connect the dots. two seasons ago drew bledsoe was a higher fantasy pick than romo. in fact much higher. fantasy comparison is weak though BTW lol. the dallas fans were frustrated going into that season because they knew the team was up and coming, but bledsoe's best years were behind him. just about everyone knew that bledsoe couldn't lead dallas to a SB much less to a playoff victory. well it came to pass that bledsoe couldn't even take dallas to the playoffs. finally parcells went with romo. has he won a playoff game yet? no, but this franchise is so much better now that they have a QB that can compete at a high level. and let's not soon forget the guy has only played 1.5 seasons of football as a starter. my point is...when you have a young and up coming team. you go with the guy that has the most upside at the moment. right now that would be leinart. is warner bad. no not all. is warner going to lead the cards to the SB? no way. is he going to lead them to the playoffs? I don't think so personally. then you factor if the guy has a future in this league? year to year at best. you can blame rackers all you want til you are blue in the face. but warner didn't get the job done in some of those games either. in fact he took that game losing sack against SF. he takes a lot of sacks and will turn the ball over against pressure defenses. the cardinals need to put an end to this and go forward with leinart. it's pretty clear IMO.

What the hell has happened to the NFL? Due to player-team arrangements stars have to revert to bashing their team in the limelight to increase their negotiating power.

Then of course we have fantasy football that provides (requires) even more time and attention to something that's supposed to be a fun diversion from everyday life. Now you have fantasy geeks cheering for players PLAYING AGAINST THEIR OWN TEAM. Don't get it, not to mention now we have people using FF logic to pimp their QB. I thought the game was about winning?

I love Warner to death but throwing for 450 yards a game doesn't equate to winning all the time; as a matter of fact it usually ends up in a big ole L.

Realistically -

  • Warner is more reliable at moving the offense down the field and putting points up.
  • Leinart has the higher upside (because he's younger) and can sometimes move the team - but not as reliably as Warner.
  • Leinart is more mobile than Warner - and can execute boots and waggles outside the tackles more effectively.
  • Warner has been known to put the ball on the ground in bizarre and dramatic fashion (like the infamous OT safety)
  • If Leinart starts and goes down, you can feel pretty good about having Warner as a backup. But if Warner were to start and then go down, you'd have to be slightly less comfortable about having Leinart come off the bench (at least as of now - perhaps he'll prove otherwise).
  • Two capable QB's are better than one (or none)

Really!

1) Define struggle
2) Are we talking about your weekly cheque, monthly, a year's income?
3) Are we talking pre-tax or taxed?
4) How much then?
5) Have you spoken to Mom and Dad about this?
