They give up a top 3 protected pick for Gerald Wallace?!?!

So Portland is likely getting a top 7 pick for Wallace, why cant we ever fleece teams like that.

Portland really doing what the Suns should have done.

Gave up Wallace and Camby and got an expiring contract in Okur, a top 7 pick, Flynn who is expering but has untapped potential, Thabeet who is expiring and has untapped potential.

They just acquired a great asset in the draft pick and took a flyer on 2 young guys with no risk.

Unfair and we are stuck with this boring old team forever trying to get past Portland.

Oh yeah, I would not mind bringing in Nate McMillan to replace Gentry in the offseason.

Seriously? You would take a number 7 pick over Gerald Wallace?? Difference: Wallace is a proven all-star calibre player, who hustles and plays with heart on both ends of the court. A number 7 pick is a GAMBLE.

Wallace was probably the best player in Portland next to Aldridge. I think the Nets benefit from this deal.

IMO, Portland should have traded Felton and Crawford away. The Camby move was ok though.

The problem is the Suns didn't have a quasi-expiring contract of a Wallace-caliber player. Besides, they have better chances for reaching the PO than POR did, at least they seem to think so.

In a heartbeat (especially that Wallace may leave them this summer unless they overpay him). So would everyone else except Billy King.

exactly.

Wallace WOULD have left this offseason regardless. It was either him or Batum, and with them keeping Batum they basically committed to him. So in essence there was no room for Wallace anymore.

Getting a high draft pick for him was the perfect deal for Portland.

NJ on the other hand took a HUGE gamble. They could be left without both Wallace and Williams after this offseason, and then would have just thrown away a lotto pick for nothing. STUPID move by them.

Portland on the other hand just threw in the towel, which is a good thing. They've given up on Oden, and have just two long term contracts (excluding rookies and Roy). They can build through the draft and through FA, and when they stop paying Roy they'll be sitting pretty in terms of cap space.

They had Amare. All of the crap they were offered in exchange for him was less appealing than what Portland got for Wallace.

Uh , Wallace a proven allstar player? He is 30, he made like maybe 1 fluke allstar appearance in his career and he is averaging 13/6.6 and can't make a 3. Plus his contract is expiring.

Wallace was maybe worth a #15-20 pick considering the Nets did not dump any contracts instead they gave up other expirings with a pick that is likely to be #4-6 right now.

It's not all about the stats. Wallace is a great leader for a team aswell. Just look at the Bobcats. With Wallace, they made the playoffs, without him they're one of the worst teams in history of ever.

I did not know that he could have just left this offseason though. That brings a new perspective on the deal.

Two years ago when the Bobcats made the play-off their leader and best player wasn't Wallace, it was Stephen Jackson. Besides, their coach was Larry Brown which probably makes the biggest difference comparing them to the actual Bobcats team.

I'm leaning towards this being more of a desperation move to make a splash. it is a gamble, however because williams is opting out of his contract. I would rather have that top 7 pick to hope that you get someone to build around in the future and still have a shot at getting dwight howard later.
