JACKSONVILLE — For former Jacksonville State football offensive lineman Clay Webb, the NFL draft process has seen him pursue the dream he's had since before fourth grade.
Webb, who did positional drills during Jax State's Pro Day on Friday, has already been through the ropes of the draft process with stops in Mobile for Senior Bowl week and the NFL Combine. Webb was a part of about a dozen former Gamecocks who worked out in front of scouts from at least 16 NFL teams in Jacksonville.
Webb is from Oxford, and that's where the dream first formed to one day be an NFL player. He played at Oxford High School, where he developed into a five-star recruit, signing with Georgia out. He played three seasons three before returning home to Calhoun County to play for the Gamecocks.
Not everyone believed Webb could realize his dream.
"Someone sat us down and was like football is not everything, no one in this room is going to make the NFL," he recalled from his youth, "and I was like, 'I am, I could it,' and I'm here now."
Webb declined to say if any teams have stood out, but the Saints, Falcons, Bears, Packers and Jets, among other teams, were at the pro day. In about a month-and-a-half, Webb's life will change when his name is called during the NFL Draft.
"That's very blessing to me, very humbling to me," Webb said.

Webb credits Jax State offensive line coach Rick Trickett for helping his development. Trickett is the lone coaching holdover on Charles Kelly's first-year staff with the Gamecocks and was present for parts of pro day, giving Webb and the other lineman advice.
"The lessons with Trickett were life-changing for me. They got me right back on track where I needed to be. I can't thank Trickett enough for who I am now," Webb said.
The NFL Draft will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26.
