I'll bet if Bob Melvin were in his doctor's office for a routine checkup, and the doctor tapped his knee to check his reflexes . . .

. . . Bob Melvin's leg would react about six months later.

Edgar Gonzalez, on the DL, has the D'backs worst ERA -- 6.00. 34 earned runs allowed in 48 innings -- an average of two every three innings.

The next highest ERA's belong to our closer -- Brandon Lyon at 4.76 -- our closer. And Doug Davis at 4.58 -- our #4 starter.

Meanwhile, Wally Scherzer's ERA of 2.65 is the lowest on the team. And he sits in the bullpen, waiting for an instant call for long relief.

The exact same situation which gave him a tired arm, time on the DL and a return to the Minors earlier this season.

My mail deliverer could do a better job of managing than that.

You settle for a second choice for Manager. You get what you deserve.

As the AFLAC duck says, coming out of Yogi Berra's barbership, "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh."

Edit: Correction -- Max Scherzer. Perhaps if he weren't buried in the bullpen, I wouldn't botch his first name.

Here's another example. Randy Johnson was not very successful for the first part of the season while Miguel Montero was his designated Catcher.

Then Chris Snyder was catching his games and Randy was the RJ of old.

So what did Melvin do? 'Went back to starting Montero every game that Randy pitches. And Randy has returned to mediocre.

We don't know what goes on behind the scenes, of course.

But any fan can see that having Randy pitch to Snyder brought him more success. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.
