I know there is no real way of knowing but the way I see it there are three really great players in this draft and none are Qb's.

Russell is good but he had a lot of mediocre games in the past, and is not in excellant shape and might not have the mental makeup of a leader. Quinn is good but might not have all the tools. But who knows, he could turn into the next Brady.

The three world beater, major impact players I see are:

1. Calvin Johnson

He's just amazing, looks better than any receiver coming out maybe ever.

2. Joe Thomas

Hopefully anchors our line for the next decade, doesn't seem
to have any blemishes.

3. Adrian Peterson

Has all the tools to be great, has had injuries.

I would be very happy if one of these three fell to us. I hope the teams fall in love with the qb's. 2 & 3, hopefully we can trade down for great compensation. Possibly keep 2, not sure about 3.

I agree with you here. I would however add Landry to the list. I know that there isn't a big value on FS's, but I think that this guy will be one of the best in the league in a year or two.

Obviously, you haven't watched his highlight package. Can score everytime he gets his hands on the ball!!! On a return, reverse or reception. He's absolutely unworldly and will be the steal of the century wherever he's chosen if he's not Number One Overall.

Um... Mike Williams, WR, USC; David Terrell, WR, Michigan?

Calvin Johnson will not go overall #1. in my opinion. And yes, I've watched him a number of times.

Skkorp,

Too early to call my friend.....what happens to Moss in the offseason will dictate things!

Why is it every year 'The greatest WR to come out ever' comes out?

Every year the top five picks are proclaimed to at least be pro-bowlers and there is usually one who should be a hall famer before he even steps on the field. At least that is what te media and the player's agents will have you think.

I do think that Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell have more talent than Alex Smith did when he came out from college. I do believe that Calvin Johnson has more physical talent than Larry Fitzgerald did when he was drafted. I am not actually sold on Joe Thomas and I wonder if anyone has a comparison to how he did in his pre-draft workouts compared to the elite tackles in the game (Walter Jones, Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden). When you draft left tackle those are they football players that you want to compare him to. When comparing Gaines Adams to DEs that have been top picks, I just don't see him as comparing to Julius Pepppers, it would be pretty awful to select him and he turns into Courtney Brown.

we'll see. the greatest WR of all time didn't run a staggering 40 time. He wasn't the biggest guy either. the same said when you look at some of the greatest running backs or qb's.

Thank you. Wish I had thought of that retort.

Calvin Johnson is very good and his bust potential is low. Has any WR ever gone #1?

Keyshaun Johnson is all I can remember

Calvin Johnson has all the tools and seems to have a head on his shoulders unlike Mike Williams and David Terrell. He will be a great one.

mattyboy, you are a voice of reason. I have no clue on whether Calvin Johnson will be great or not. From seeing him play, admitedly with a lousy QB, he didn't look like a #1 pick to me.

So who would I choose #1? I truly believe that unless a team picking at that spot needs a franchise QB, no player at any other position is ever worth a #1 pick. If we had the #1, I'd trade it.

Damn. You've got great recall. That's the second or third time you've dredged up an answer. But doesn't Keyshaun make my point? Was he worth the #1 pick?

Maybe a better question would be who in history would have been number one pick worthy as a WR?

Maybe Jerry Rice that's the only one I can think of that might qualify and that would depend on who else was in the draft with him and that he was in that era specifically or it still wouldn't be worth it.

QB's sure, otherwise they better be almost surefire HOF at their position, LT, RB, CB, LB, DE all could be but after that it's pretty pointless.

From what I've read (believe it's from The War Room insider) Thomas is a lot like Jordan Gross coming out. Athletic and nasty, but not as flashy as Ferguson, Gallary, Pace or Ogden, just very productive. That puts him in the same category as Gross, Jamaal Brown and Walter Jones.

As for Joe Thomas I'd compare him to a Tony Boselli. I think that Thomas's high grade comes from his quickness off the snap. This was confirmed at the Combine where he wowed scouts with his quick feet and great ballance. That is exactly what you want from your typical left tackle.

Gains Adams doesn't compare well to Peppers or Brown. Those guys are your bigger DEs where Adams is more of a smaller DE like a Jason Taylor.

For you old-timers with good memories, why didn't Johnny Rodgers from Nebraska go #1? Was he already in jail before he was draft elligible?

He might have been the best all-round offensive threat I've ever seen. Better than Rocket Ismail, better than Reggie Bush.

I am not sure of the draft spot, but I know he was drafted by the Chargers, but decided to play in the CFL instead for more money. Later in his career he came back to the nfl.
