The Washington Commanders have been busy since free agency opened two weeks ago. While Washington didn't go crazy shopping for some of free agency's supposed top players, it was active, especially in the trade market.

The Commanders traded for former Pro Bowl wide receiver Deebo Samuel and five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. Those moves fill two of Washington's biggest holes, with Samuel stepping in as a No. 2 receiver opposite Terry McLaurin and Tunsil protecting superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels.

As far as signing external free agents, general manager Adam Peters used a similar approach from last year, signing and re-signing veterans to cheaper one-year deals. Standout veterans such as linebacker Bobby Wagner and tight end Zach Ertz earned significant raises due to their 2024 production and importance to the team.

After defensive tackle Jonathan Allen's release, the Commanders entered free agency with over $90 million in salary cap space. So, where does Washington sit now after multiple signings and the two trades?

According to Over the Cap, the Commanders have $22.56 million remaining cap space. Some will be to sign their draft picks, while some will carry over into the sign to cover for signing players to cover for injuries. There are other ways for the Commanders to create even more space if needed, such as extending star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, which is likely at some point.

Here are cap hits for some of Washington's newcomers:

  • LT Laremy Tunsil: $21.3 million
  • WR Deebo Samuel: $17.5 million (before reworked contract)
  • DL Javon Kinlaw: $5.3 million
  • CB Jonathan Jones: $5.5 million
  • S Will Harris: $2.89 million

Here are the cap hits for some of the players Washington re-signed:

  • LB Bobby Wagner: $9 million
  • TE Zach Ertz: $6.25 million
  • TE John Bates: $4.33 million
  • QB Marcus Mariota: $8.3 million
