How much has Mark Turgeon's stock risen this weekend?

Before, it was believed he was a top candidate to replace Rob Evans at ASU. Now, with the Shockers holding a very realistic shot at making the Elite 8, do you guys think his value may have escalated beyond ASU's price range??

I doubt Turgeon would go to ASU. He could definitely go to a program that has a winning tradition and a program that has the support from the community. The Devils don't meet those requirements. They will never fill their arena night in, night out, even if they have a winning program. They did not average a sellout during the Byron Scott era or when they went to the Sweet 16 in 1995.

I would not be surprised if schools like Indiana and Missouri take a hard look at him.

Those are exactly the schools I envisioned Turgeon going to. He's a Kansas guy by nature, and by going to Missouri or Indiana, he wouldn't have to worry about a cross country uprooting.

I dunno, the more I think of it, the more I'm thinking he's coaching his way out of Arizona State's range and right in to Missouri's lap.

Turgeon is a KU guy which means there's no chance he goes to Missouri. He's got a good gig right now at Wichita, their arena is sold out every night with a waiting list to get season tickets and he's coaching in his home state. I could see him at Iowa though if Steve Alford gets the Indiana job.

Money does make one do strange things. See Mr. Hoosier at a rival Big Ten school (Alford).

That being said, I am not sure the Missouri job is much of an upgrade over Wichita State. And if Self keeps losing first-round games (Ha-ha traitor...), then the KU job may open up soon.

Yeah no way he would ever go to Mizzou.

He's a Kansas boy and his family (wife and 3 kids) loves living there. Even moved his in-laws there from Chicago-area. I think he's staying put, but you never know...

Taken from a Missouri Valley Conference message board.

Based on what MT has said in the past and those very close to him, he isn't looking to go anywhere other than KU and that may even be a job he turns down one day as he watches the arrogant, thankless, KU Nation continue to persecute a pretty solid coach (Big 12 COY) in Bill Self.

After it's all said and done Mark will be the highest paid coach in the Valley...
Coaches like Mark Turgeon and Dana Altman hanging around will continue to bring the Valley back to greater and greater heights. The Valley of 2006 is a long way from the Valley of 2001. There are a lot more reasons for a coach to stay now than in the past.

Other than money and "perceived" status, there really isn't too many reasons to leave this conference right now. The money issue isn't a problem for Wichita State because I can guarantee you that WSU has the ability to pay Mark upwards of a million dollars a year. I can assure you the money is loose and plentiful. If Mark Turgeon will make a commitment with us he will be a very rich man.

I have no idea what ASU could pay MT, but following the Wichita St. program for 25 years and listening to MT the last 6...he seems perfectly happy at WSU. Sell-outs every night and now with the MVC so good...it would take a lot more than "salary" to get him out of Wichita. He is the toast of the city!

In ASU's favor though...
- I know he has a sister living in Scottsdale lol :)
- He is a HUGE golfer (loves it)
- Recently been recruiting the Phoenix area
- Was an assistant at Oregon (Pac-10) so is familiar with the Pac-10.

Again...you never know! :)

I'm pretty sure Mizzou/KU is much different that IU/Iowa. Mizzou/KU to our schools is like Duke/UNC. We HATE each other. It's not like Nebraska, K State or Colorado.

As for Bill Self's job being in question or the "arrogant, thankless, KU Nation" persecuting him. It's just not true from anything I've seen.

KU was supposed to be an NIT team. I don't even think we got a single vote in the first top-25 polls. The fact that we won the Big 12 tournament and tied for the Big 12 regular season was WAY over expectations. Which led to a let down in the tournament to a team that was much better than most people thought. Bradley wasn't an "upset special" except when you look at seed. They handled an experienced Pitt team just as easily as the did the young Jayhawks.

I'm much happier with an NCAA tournament appearance (and keeping our streak alive) with a first round loss than ending up in the NIT and maybe winning a game or two.

ASU has $$$ to spend, Majerus already said he'd coach ASU for less than what Dixon is asking...The ASU basketball program is a black hole as far as revenue, and LL has already stated that she'd pay close to Koetter's contract for a basketball coach...So, that guy is probably around #4-5 on the list for ASU's job...
