Playing the young guys right? Developing the young guys?

Nothing has changed since firing Gentry and it seems they want to waste away the chances at McLemore/Muhammad and still be competetive at this point.

No direction..

I pretty much expect the FO to say whatever they think will best serve their interests at the moment.

But if I was running things I'd give a new coach a free hand at getting the team playing its best and building morale. After all he has to evaluate what he has to work with for the future - besides it would be hard to evaluate the youngsters if the whole team were playing like crap.
I like what I've seen so far even though a lot of it is probably due to the 'honeymoon' effect with a new coach. I find I'm enjoying watching the games now. After twenty games we might see his (and Kokoskov's) ideas taking root.

'Twould be a grand joke on the FO if they thought the team would completely fall apart under Hunter and maximize their draft slot. I doubt that was their expectation, however.

It happens rarely....but I agree with you on this slin..no direction. All that B.S. about developing young talent was just a smoke screen to shake up the coaching staff. Everything that comes out of this FO is completely B.S. IMO.

I don't disagree with you in principle. However, if the FO really cared about "getting the team playing its best and building morale"...hiring Hunter doesn't accomplish that. Call me crazy but I would rather think about the team strategically hiring Hunter knowing they don't really want him at the end of the season or thinking it would secure us a better draft position versus the alternative. If the FO honestly thinks this guy is the future HC of this organization there might not be any hope for this FO.

Welcome to the last 3 years.

They "need" draft a PG, sign a relatively expensive PG in free agency, and they bring back their backup from the previous year... they sign Scola, O'Neal, Tucker in the offseason, then fire the coach for not playing younger players.

There are not words to describe the incompetence and lack of direction.

I'm not sure that's the case. I think it's worse than that. I believe they drafted using the best player available method.

Kendall Marshall was not the best player available. The guy isn't even capable of playing well in the D-League.

Its probably alot harder to play the young guys than Hunter thought. Every coach is competitive. How can you put Marshall in a game when the game still seems winnable?

I am willing to see what kind of coach Hunter will be. I have serious doubts about his effectiveness. But he does come from a "defense first/team offense" tradition. The present Suns will probably be more effective playing in the Detroit Pistons (Chauncy Billups, Lindsay Hunter era) style than in the SSOL of the Nash era.

This is really it from Lance Blank's perspective I think.

We are talking about a major change for the Suns.

In the meantime are they not supposed to play the best players available?

When leadership changes, it is best to not make major changes right away. This is change management 101. You make small changes (Hunter's been giving Beasley more time, and Dragic's minutes have changed- he plays first half of a quarter, then sits and starts the second quarter, for example) instead of turning everything upside down.

Anyone with any leadership/ management skills/ experience understands this. I am not a big defender of the Suns leadership, but they are handling this change just fine.

When a team drafts the best player available it only means "they" believe he is the best player available. Hence my suggestion that it's even worse than Pbit's claim they drafted for need. I think they rated Marshall the BPA and that's alarming.

The logic of your original post was obvious.

In a van...down by the river.
Personally i dont feel shammed by the Suns....disappointed sure, but IMO this franchise has been BS'ing themselves for decades with what they've been putting out there on the court thinking it was championship caliber.

That goes for Colangelo and Sarver both, although Colangelo obviously wanted it more and was willing to at least hire basketball people, develop our scouting and throw big bucks at FA's.

Sarver has been a clueless, bottom line corporate-like clown.

Is there a petition out there yet to kick Sarver out of town? Lets start one here.
