How much longer will it take Melvin to bench Shawn Green?

Melvin finally woke up and took out Ortiz, he needs to do the same with Green. Shawn is just horrible. He is now 1-15 with men in scoring position and is batting close to .200. I want to see Quentin given a shot by the all-star break. As for now, Damian Easley is a better fit in right than Green.

Eric Byrnes is hurting this team with his lack of offense. Luckily he is only here for this year.

S. Green was 2-5 tonight! I really see him turnin it around. HA, YEAH RIGHT! I don't see Melvin benching him anytime soon. Melvin needs to though, we are starting to get on base more and Green grounds into double plays every time up. He sucks and we're all sick of it. You know a player is bad when no one sticks up for him on a fan message board. DeVannon has proved he's more than capable to play RF and hit at the same time. He's a switch hitter and he's more valuable than Green at this point

Um, I don't think you can tell a player's value by how many people are sticking up for him on a fan message board...just my opinion...

True, but the fact that no one is rushing to his defense is a sign. He doesn't get in trouble off the field and fans still don't like him. Usually there are always fans that stick up for players in this forum. I don't see anyone sticking for Ortiz and his value has plummeted. While it may not be an indicator of value, Green has clearly been passed by the likes of DaVannon and Easley which obvioulsy tells us something of Greens diminshing abilities

Fine, I'll stick up for Green then...He is a notorious slow starter, and his defense isn't hurting the team. He will get better as the season goes on, as his M.O. He's not gonna hit 320 with 40 home runs, but he should be good for .275 with 20+ homers. Not bad production.

The thing that gets me is Carlos Quentin can give you that production or better and the same level of defense. They won't bench Green but you have to hate the fact that Joe G Jr. pull the trigger on that deal.

Can't argue with that, Carlos is probably ready to go. Now, was he ready last year, I doubt it. But the problem is really in the length of Green's deal, not that we have him.

Exactly, Green was a very good player but he is getting past his prime and a player like Quentin could put up the numbers Green will. The experience Carlos would get would benefit the team for the upcoming years.

If Green can put up some decent to average numbers in the next couple of months, my hope is some team will want to trade for him, clearing the way for Quentin.

A $10 mill a year player who MAY bat .275 and MAY have 20+ homers who at the same time is blocking our number one prospect is not good production. He hasn't had a productive season since 2002 and he's showing no signs of a turnaround.

He only gets hits when no one is on and he grounds into double plays every time there is a base runner. After tonights game, he's batting a whoping .117 (2/17) with runners in scoring position............ Thats right, only 2 hits with RISP this year. With runner on he is batting .193 (6/31). And in which situation does he have his most hits??? That would be with NO RUNNERS ON BASE (.277 10/36).

Not sure which Shawn Green you've been watching but I haven't seen the defense your speaking of. Sure, he can catch a fly ball hit at him but IMO he has been unimpressive in the field. He dogs it quite often in the field and has made several bad/embarrassing plays in RF. When he tossed the ball to a bent over Byrnes so he could throw the ball in when Green has the best arm on team to begin with..... Or when he jogged to a ground ball when Lofton was already on 1B, slowly fielded it, and didn't have any momentum to throw out Lofton who easliy strided into 3rd standing up. He shows zero enthusiam which has shown in the field this year.

Ask yourself this and be honest when answering..... How is Shawn Green's performance any different than Luis Tererro's??? The only difference is one is making nearly 9 mill more and the other was cut during spring training. The only thing protecting Green is his paycheck- if he made what Terrerro was making he would have hit the waiver wire with him. Great, he has had 5 hits the last 2 games...... He has only 2 RBI's in 70 AB's to go along with only 10 runs. I would call that far from pretty productive. Q BY THE ALL-STAR BREAK!!!
