Oregon softball continues to rack up wins in what has been the second-best start in program history.
The No. 8 Ducks beat visiting Illinois three times over the weekend at Jane Sanders Stadium, winning twice by run rule Saturday and then sealing the sweep with a walk-off home run Sunday.
With the wins, Oregon’s record improved to 29-3 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten play. It’s the Ducks’ best 32-game start since going a program-record 35-0 to open the 2017 season.
How did Oregon softball sweep Illinois?
The Ducks won the opener 9-1 when play resumed on Saturday after the game was suspended Friday due to rain. They won the second game 14-0. Both games ended in the fifth inning.
Oregon scored 14 runs combined in the first innings of the first two games and also got homers from Katie Flannery, Dezianna Patmon, Braiesey Rosa and Rylee McCoy. Oregon’s pitchers, meanwhile, held the Illini to one run on three hits in the two games.

With the score tied 3-3 Sunday, Rosa led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off homer as she put the first pitch she saw over the fence in left-center field to give the Ducks a 4-3 win.

Oregon is on a long road trip to Piscataway, New Jersey, for a two-game series against Rutgers.
The Ducks and Scarlet Knights will play at 1 p.m. PT on Friday and noon Saturday.
