my thoughts:

nothing shocking here -- but clearly the offense moves to something a bit more convential with a renewed emphasis on the run. I think here are how this change manifests itself:

1. I think the Cards move the need for a all around, receiving threat TE up on the list. For young QBs -- a TE in the middle of the field is a safety blanket they all rely on. How about a Jermaine Gresham, TE Oklahoma on draft day?

2. More waggle plays. Leinart is no Vick, but he can move and getting some mobility at the QB position offers more plays and ways to beat a blitz (aside from quick reads and throws).

3. More play action. Warner didnt like turning his back to coverage. This now becomes much more used part of the offense.

4. Tim and Beanie -- get your rest this off season. You will get carries 2010.

Find a way to draft Toby Gerhart and put him at FB. Get a better recieving TE. Mix with Beanie, Hightower and Doucet for a bruising offensive scheme that leaves Breaston and Fitz as downfield threats.

Thats the way I see it at least.

With the D as it stands probably. But lets see how the off season shakes out.

Have to agree. With the Cards being able to run the football now other teams will have less time to score so fewer points won't necessarily mean more losses.

After all the Cards scored fewer points in '09 than they did in '08 and won one more game.

However, with the aging defense and expected departure of Dansby the defense will be the key to winning next season as you must have a defense to complement your power run game or you'll get behind and not be able to catch up.

From what I saw from Wells and Hightower last year I'm not worried about the offense. I also don't think not having Warner passing will impact the run game.

With a HOF passer and two of the best WRs in the NFL, and throwing for over 4,500 yards in 2008, and teams knowing they had to stop the Cards passing attack, the Cards still managed to finish last in rushing.

Maybe with Kurt retiring there will be a greater emphasis on the D. Less points for and less points against. MAYBE that will translate into us trying harder to keep Dansby......

I'm with Duck and Shane on this-----Yes, there will probably be fewer points per game. That does not necessarily convert to more losses, (though it could). Our run game should come into its own now, and become at least half of our offense. That means more clock run-off, and a fresher defense.

The defense will probably change too. Yes, I think we will go after a rush-linebacker, and a run stuffing inside backer as well. But I really think that the key to our defense will be obtaining a legitimate nose tackle who will command double teams that will allow Dockett and Campbell to get free more often to disrupt the opponent's backfield, or at the very least, make the tackle at the line of scrimmage. I look for as many as 5 picks in the draft being used on the defensive side of the ball, considering that there is such a plethora of talent available there this year.

I really believe that our new defense will be up to the task of covering for fewer points scored by the offense.

Unless Gresham is as good a blocker as a receiver; and I don't believe he is; then I don't want him!

And really he only had one fumble personally. There were a lot of things that blew that game, and Matt was barely a small part of that. But boy was he great during the first 3 quarters. I saw the light of a division championship at halftime, ugh...

yup, and ALL other picks should be defense.

Unless we manage to trade for some bonus picks. I still love Gerhart.

Play action is what Leinart does best.

And with Beanis in the picture...

one other factor I am taking some solace in:

Kurt had his moments, but wasnt all that good during his first two years here -- year one in particular.

Good QB play is key for a good team -- but a good team around the QB also leads to the best QB play. Football is the ultimate team game.

Warner's resurrection was also a reflection of the improving talent and coaching around him.

Leinart will have all the elements he needs to be successful.

When you look at what Kurt did best, hitting WR's in stride, able to put the ball in very tight places, reading defenses, those things are pretty much gone now.

Matt is more mobile but otherwise isn't nearly as good as Kurt.

Still the team could use more balance anyhow, it's almost a good thing that the whole team will act like a true team more IMO, no one is going to be able to depend on the QB having a lights out game to bail the whole team out.

I expect Whis through it all will have em playing ball, he always does, it's batter up Matt, no more excuses, but no more sitting either, it's on you.

I agree with all of this. Towards the end of the year our run defense wasn't very good. Yes Hayes was dinged and ..... but a NT in the 3-4 is key.

Leinart now knows he is the man. It will have to change the mentality he has going through the summer and training camp. He has matured. He has the physical tools and he has had the opportunity of watching and learning from one of the greats over the last two years. He also has a running game that Kurt did not have when he came here.

I think he will be good.

I don't think we should be concerned about Matt or the Offense. Matt may not be as accurate as Kurt but he is a top flight Qb and had several years to learn from Kurt and Whis. He will have a better more seasoned Oline and a better more experienced Running game. Whis will be able to now go to a more balanced attack with this group on offense. WE still will have a super Wr corp that will put up points. The D is where the overhaul has to happen. We need several draft picks to step up and we need to replace one corner via FA. Mcfadden is a bust. We need to let Rolle( as much as it pains me to say) move on. He is not a good compliment to AW. Need to keep Dockett happy and playing at a high level and I believe C. Campbell has a break out year next season. We need Branch and Watson to be run stuffers but more important we have to stop the pass and another shutdown corner and saftey is where the money needs to be spent. Outside of that we need to look for a speed Wr to stretch the field like Philly has. That will allow us to move Q and get Fitz and Ducett open doing there thing. We will score points. Maybe not at the Kurt era Cards but we will do well on offense. Fix the D this season. Lots of holes there.
