How to keep your free 25GB of Microsoft SkyDrive storage

http://www.gadgetbox.msnbc.msn.com/...-free-25gb-microsoft-skydrive-storage-730877#

Microsoft SkyDrive has been a sleeper alternative to Apple's iCloud, providing five times as much free storage. Monday, however, Microsoft announced that it is cutting the free option to 7 GB. That's the only option for new users. But if you already have an account, you have a limited amount of time to hold on to your 25 GB.

And it's worth doing. While it doesn't have the slick syncing capability between gadgets that iCloud does, SkyDrive is still a good free repository for online docs that you can access from anywhere.

I logged in using my Windows Live account, but there was no 25gb option. Maybe because I had never used it yet? I dunno. Still, 7gb is good for free.

I think I understand; I didn't have it installed anywhere; was just accessing through the 'net.

Boo! Did you only sign up recently?
When I went to skydrive.com, it asked me to log in using my windows live id, which I did, and that's when it took me there. I hadn't been to skydrive (or heard of it, even) before then. So I'm guessing that's why. It's all good. I'm not greedy. 7GB of storage is great!

I guess the reason this is happening is both competition and environmentalism. This is basically another "cloud" and people are just now discovering that all the companies doing this are mainly getting their electricity from coal burning plants so I think these companies realize to keep on the good side of environmentalists they're going to have to change. That means more expensive power which means less free storage etc.

I guess I have to see how many pics Lucy has at home I have them on my desktop and backed up onto the 2nd hard drive, and on an external drive too, but if they will fit in 7GB it makes sense to have another storage spot for them too.

When you login and manage storage, there will be a popup (not browser) that offers the 25gb upgrade.

I'm guessing it depends on how long you've had the acct too.
