New Mexico's men's basketball team assembled the type of regular season that gave it some room for error, which it used when it couldn't win the Mountain West tournament as the regular-season champion.
The Lobos still comfortably made the field and avoided a First Four game as a No. 10 seed. Instead, it gets a 23-10 Marquette team that finished fourth in the Big East.
The winner moves on to a likely second-round game against Michigan State, assuming the Spartans get past Bryant.
The No. 10 New Mexico Lobos play the No. 7 Marquette Golden Eagles at 5:25 p.m. Central/7:25 local (Eastern)/6:25 p.m. Central at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
New Mexico plays Marquette at 5:25 p.m. Mountain time on TBS.
The Marquette Golden Eagles are 4 1/2-point favorites, according to odds on BetMGM.com. With an over-under of 152.5, Marquette is expected to win 79-74.
The winner plays the winner of Michigan State-Bryant Sunday in Cleveland.

Bret Bloomquist writes: "New Mexico is ready to get on a roll. The Lobos have been hot all year, and that's not going to change in this one."
The site says: "The Golden Eagles’ combination of superior guard play, defensive efficiency (No. 15 in adjusted defensive efficiency, allowing 94.2 points per 100 possessions), and offensive rebounding (8.5 offensive boards per game on the season) will be enough to weather New Mexico’s high-tempo pressure. While the Lobos can certainly create havoc, Marquette’s balanced attack and playoff-tested players will carry them to a comfortable victory."
ESPN's Jay Bilas: Marquette will win.
Bilas puts the odds of an upset at high. He writes: "High. New Mexico is very good and has one of the country's best point guards in Donovan Dent. Don't be surprised if the Lobos clip the Golden Eagles, though neither team should get past Michigan State."
