In his press conference yesterday Howland was asked about Roll's status for the postseason. About a month ago Roll coming off surgery on a torn plantar fascia was said to be "unlikely to play again this year" by Howland. Speculation was UCLA would seek a medical redshirt year. Yesterday howland was asked if that was still the plan and he said "no he may have to step up and play this year."

Nobody is quite sure what it means beyond that with Shipp in a slump Roll may have convinced Howland to burn the redshirt year if Roll can play. The Roll we saw the first time around this year was completely out of it , shot 24%, couldn't make 3's and couldn't guard anybody it was obvious the plantar fascitis was really bothering him. He then ruptured the tendon and had surgery so it's not clear to me what sort of shape he'd be in if he returned. But this is the first time at all that Howland has suggested it's possible Roll will come back so who knows.

THey could use a guy who can give 5-10 minutes off the bench to spell the guards and Shipp.
