Any good experiences? I bought the Deskjet 1055 it does copying, printing and scanning. My friend bought one at Target on sale 38.88 so I needed one too so I bought it. Got it home, went through the install right through step 6 installing the printer cartridges. Peeled the tape off and snapped them in as instructed, closed the door, and got 2 error message out of ink, paper jam(note there is no paper in it yet). So I went through the steps about 5 times and after making myself not smash it to pieces, I read the manual which says if you have this problem make sure you removed the tape and cardboard, which I did. So I took it back to Target and exchanged it for another one, last on the shelf.

They first told me to let their in store personnel get it to work, this surprised me at Target but I said fine, and their in store personnel had the same problem I did, couldn't get the error messages to go away. So they gave me the last one on the shelf(probably have more in stock).

Got home, and the same exact problem with this one. :bang:

I swear I'm not stupid. So I decided to call tech support for HP since I figure there must be some way to tell the printer to cancel the stupid error messages.

The lovely guy asked me if I was calling from India... er the United States or Canada. First clue this would not be pleasant. I tell him the problem he doesn't understand I finally give him the model # and he tells me it's a fax machine and he'll have to transfer me. Fax is the one thing this does NOT do, so I told him that and he tried some more and then said I need to transfer you to level 2 support. He makes me check all the tape and stuff is off. Then says plug it into a wall outlet not a surge suppressor. That didn't work so then he said open the door on the back to make sure nothing is stuck in there. There is no door on the back "sorry sir it's in the front" , yes I know that's how I put the cartridges in before this whole thing started.

He finally told me it's a known hardware issue with the 1055(my friend apparently got lucky hers works) so he wanted me to talk to his manager who could advise me what model to upgrade to.

You have to be kidding me, after all that trouble you think I'm going back to Target to pay MORE money to get another HP?

So I told him no thanks I'm returning the stupid thing and buying the Lexmark, and hung up.

Cost me another 12 cents, we'll see if this works after I eat lunch.

What a morning.

I've had 2; no problem with either one, really. Sorry, though...your situation sucks.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
We used to buy these for the Lead Superintendent on the jobsite. Of course, we bought them from a HP Company Account, and since we did decent business with them every year, they were always Johnny on the spot. Any problems we had they would send us a return ticket, we'd box it up and send it back, and they would ship us a new one before the old one got to them.

I've never had a problem with the All in ones.

I've had very good luck with mine. I think it is the 8300 or 1300 series, though I am posting from work and could be wrong.

I'd look into the cost of print catridges before buying the Lexmark. I remember them being a bit more expensive and harder to find than the HP. (Might just be my experience though.)

I've got an older model, the 7400 series. Had it for a while and never had a problem with it.

I got a free printer with the last computer I bought. Two days later I got to spend 25 bucks on an ink cartridge.

I have the wireless all-in-one with fax/copy/scan/print. Works like a charm.

Update, the Lexmark worked first try out of the box. Target has the Lexmark ink at the same price as HP right now, no idea if that will continue or not. I got the 26.70.

As frustrating as it was 2 things made it manageable. One the expression on the face of the guy at Target. He made the obvious assumption he forgot to remove the tape from the ink or left a piece of cardboard in there this will be an easy fix. So when he opened it up and confirmed I had not made any of the obvious mistakes he then powered it off and on and said "you're right, it's defective."

Two was the customer service lady at Target, terrible job everyone that comes in is mad. I was, but she was so polite that I decided it wasn't her fault. She put my box back with other returns and when I got back with the Lexmark I was getting instead she said "there's another HP back there", I said I know that was mine too, she then said "well I know which one NOT to buy now for me."

Both HP printers had a box with banged up corner so I'm thinking maybe they got dinged around at some point in the warehouse, a 40 dollar printer has a lot of plastic inside it that could easily be damaged.

Like the Lexmark. HP lost me when the guy told me it was a Fax machine from the model #. Either it's wrong in their system, or he said that from memory, in either case when someone calls you about a defect and you can't even tell what the product is from the model #, that's a problem.

We have a HP 6310 printer/copier,scanner.

Works great. The only problem was the network interface was crap until we upgraded to Windows 7, not the network connection is fine

Needed that so I didn't have to print through Brighteyes PC

I have had a lot of good experience with HP all in ones. However, you do get what you pay for in printers. The cheaper they are...the lower your expectations should be. I have one now and I am about to upgrade to another that does a better job with photos.
