HIGH POINT — High Point University and the Panther Club have selected the hall of fame class for 2025.
The class consists of eight student-athletes, a coach and a string of five men’s tennis teams that dominated in the 1970s: Pete Collins (‘74, men’s basketball), Kenny Carter (‘82, baseball), Arlene King (‘93, women’s basketball and volleyball), Kristy Powell (‘95, women’s soccer), Tommy Moore (‘00, men’s golf), Stacia Robertson (‘15, women’s basketball), Christine Rickert (‘16, women’s track & field), Holden Trent (‘22, men’s soccer), and Ray Alley (men’s soccer and men’s tennis coach).
The induction ceremony will be Saturday, May 17, in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. Cocktail hour and dinner will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., with the ceremony immediately following from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for the HOF ceremony are $50 per person or $300 for a table of eight.
The Panther Classic Golf Tournament will be Friday, May 16, at High Point Country Club’s Willow Creek course. The pricing will be: individual ($150), foursome ($600), hole sponsorship ($600), while a foursome and hole sponsorship paired together is $1,000. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
This year’s class:
Pete Collins — Collins was a two-time All-Carolinas Conference and All-NAIA District 26 player in 1971 and 1973. Collins still holds the record in all-time rebounds with 1,268, averaging 11.4 per game.
Kenny Carter — Carter was a four-year starter at third base, shortstop and second base. For his career, Carter had a .319 batting average, scored 137 runs while knocking out 17 home runs, compiling 87 RBI and stealing 40 bases.
Arlene King — In volleyball, King was named the Carolinas Conference Tournament MVP in 1990 while earning All-Carolinas Conference and All-NAIA honors in 1991 and 1992. King averaged 16.6 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game as she sits ninth all-time in points (1,432) and rebounds (710).
Kristy Powell — Powell was a member of the first women’s soccer team and was the first to receive a scholarship in program history. Powell is still first all-time in career goals (33) and career points (82). She’s tied for seventh for all-time career assists (16).
Tommy Moore — Moore earned All-Carolinas/Virginia Athletic Conference honors while also being named the CVAC Freshman of the Year in 1997. He finished 11th in the Division II National Championship and was the only D-II athlete to receive the 1997 MasterCard Graduate Scholarship.
Stacia Robertson — Robertson finished her three-year career ranked among the top five in the program’s Division I history in six categories, including seventh in points with 1,274.
Christine Rickert — Rickert remains among the best javelin throwers in conference history. She still holds the conference record at 52.47 meters. Rickert finished 12th at the NCAA Track & Field National Meet in 2016 and was named an All-American.
Holden Trent — Trent was a two-time Big South Conference Goalkeeper of the Year (2021, 2022) and three-time First-Team All-Conference member (2020-21, 2022-2023). He became the highest drafted player in program history, being taken by the Philadelphia Union at No. 28 in 2022.
Ray Alley — Alley, a 1966 graduate of High Point College, coached the men’s soccer team from 1972-1974 and the men’s tennis team from 1971-975 and 1989-1992. Alley also served as the first sports information director. He also coached men’s tennis, winning eight conference titles and seven coach of the year awards. He is the only coach in HPU sports history to win an NAIA National Coach of the Year Award.
1971-1975 men’s tennis teams — During the five-year run, High Point, coached by Alley, never lost a dual match with an NAIA District 26 team and had a Carolinas Conference winning streak of 24 matches.
