'Hunger Games' prequels are planned and will feature arena battles

Hunger Games fans can expect to see prequels for the hit films, even films showing arena battles.

The studio which brought Katniss Everdeen to the screen in four hit movies will travel back to early battles for upcoming editions, Lionsgate Entertainment Vice Chairman Michael Burns said Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The current films covered the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, which were in elaborate and spread-out terrain. The new films would go old-school with the stadiums, said Burns.

Meh. Saw the first film and had no interest in seeing any of the others. To me, it lacked character development. I am guessing that the books were better and they struggled to bring it to the screen...

Not interested since there's no katniss or peeta. I might be interested in more haymitch backstory though... even though we know about how he won his games.

Now that would be cool. Why not do that.

If they got all new people behind it, I might consider giving that movie a chance, because Haymitch rocks.

But only if it were a whole new creative team doing it. I just never liked this whole rendering of the universe. It just didn't do it for me. Should have been darker, more desperate, the people far more oppressed. They pulled too many punches for me.

In the books they mention different battle terrains like desert, frozen tundra, water, etc. Some tributes died from exposure in these elements. A Haymich backstory might be cool considering the innovative way he won his games(being the only other victor from Sector 12). But my guess this will be strictly off the cuff movies and like what others are saying this would be nothing but a money grab. Oh, and Battle Royale was awesome until the very end.

Maybe they should just remake the trilogy and attempt to make it more interesting the second time around...
