Apr. 24—OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies earned an 11 — 0 victory over Selah in their Tuesday afternoon matchup.

"Good game overall, we had pretty good approach at the plate," said Huskies head coach Sonny Garza. "(We were) able to work on that and execute our plan."

The Huskies earned 10 runs in the third inning with an error scoring one run, RJay Garza drawing a walk for a score, Trey Tovar singling scoring two, Ryan Martinez and Kal-El Ozuna doubling for two scores each, Xzyyvn Martinez doubling for a score and Quade Gonzalez singling for a score. They put up one more run in the fourth inning before the game ended in the fifth.

Sonny Salazar pitched all five innings for the Huskies, giving up one hit and zero runs, striking out seven and walking three.

"Another solid outing for (Salazar) on the mound," said Garza. "We had one error at the end of the game, but we were able to play pretty good defense as well and make the routine plays."

Garza said focusing on their strong approach in the batter's box throughout the game and being to execute when there were players in scoring position was where the team thrived and what ultimately culminated in their success. Tovar, Ryan Martinez and Jordan Montemayor were all players who had big hits throughout the game, he said.

Othello looks toward a league doubleheader against Ellensburg, a road game against Selah and a doubleheader against Toppenish for senior night to finish off the season. The team looks to stick to their game plans and continue to make their approach at bat and make their routine plays on defense to earn these last few wins before they head into the postseason, said the coach.

"Just keep grinding and stick with our plan and our purpose and what we're trying to work on," said Garza. "Just try to continue working hard."

The Huskies' next game will be on the road for a doubleheader against Ellensburg this Saturday, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
