Just for discussion sake. What if the Cards did not get the new stadium and they moved to another city outside of AZ. How many of you would still be fans of the team or how many would jump off the fanwagon and call them a joke?

Just curious as to why there are as many fans of the team as there are.

I would probably still root for them, but I also like the Clippers and the old Buccaneer teams of the 70's.

There are tons of folks on this board that have cheered the team since they were in St. Louis and a few who have been around since Chicago. I would hope that even the new fans from AZ would continue to cheer for them where ever they go.

I have always been (at least since '69) and always will be a Cards fan - for better or for worse.

The only time I thought I couldn't continue, was when there was a rumor going around that the Cardinals had been contemplating replacing the Browns in Cleveland after they moved to Baltimore.

IF they had become the new Browns, I would have said see-ya.

(I don't think there was much to that rumor.)

I love the Cards. Part of the reason is they represent Arizona, most is the love of Cardinals football. When I was young the Brooklyn Dodgers left us behind and moved to LA. I cried that day in 57'. I will never forgive them or root for them. I felt they didn't care for me why should I care for them. Pretty deep for a boy of 11. I did listen every night as Lindsey Nelson belted out the ball and strikes after 11p.m when my mom thought I was sleeping.

I guess if they would have left I would follow them for a while and then lose track. I would be wishing someother team would come into the valley and they would have (expansion or moved). I never want that feeling again of lose as I'm still a kid at heart. I'll never forget when the Dodgers moved that day sitting outside in the rain all alone and crying. I understand the die hearts that have followed this team from the Windy city and St.Louis and I raise my drink to them as I never would have been that unforgiving.

I'm not from AZ, and have never been there except for a brief layover in Phoenix. I just like the idea of the Cards breaking the Curse and finally becoming a winner. So, I'll remain a fan wherever they call home.

I am a local fan, and try to support local teams as much as possible. I would imagine I'd remain a Cards fan, until Arizona had a different team to cheer for.

Ditto. If the Cards left, I would root for them until Arizona got a new team.

The Cards aren't going anywhere though.

You're asking mostly hard-core fans here on this board; not the public at large, so most of us will probably answer: "We'll root just as hard for the Cardinals regardless of when they play and where they play."

If you have lived in AZ long enough, you know there are alot of bandwagon fans here. My guess is the hardcore would remain faithful. However, the majority of fans would flock to whatever team would eventually end up here. This town is so hungry for a winner and a team they can call there own...they would even take another city's cast off..... oh wait we already did that.

I first became intereseted in football when I was around 14, at the time I was a Minnesota fan as that is where my Father was from and he was a Viks fan.

However my interest was primarily curosory at best, if a game was on and I wasn't doing anything else I would watch during the commercials of the show I was watching.

I then joined my high school Football team and my interest increased dramatically, one of the things I relized tho was I really didn't have my "own team" And as luck would have it the Cardinals relocated to Arizona my senior year, and I adopted the team immediatly. Have been a fan since then, and will continue to be a fan when I move to Dallas.

Side note - My house is officially on the market, if anyone is looking for a place in glendale let me know, I believe my realtor is having an open house end of the month for us. ;)

I wonder if there is still a large following in St. Louis???

There isn't even a "large" following in AZ, but a few St.Louis fans remain. It's a bandwagon football town. And then there are us diehards (and die often) from Chicago. We hate the Bears BTW, which made this years loss excruciating, maybe the worst ever to da' Bears.

There is a HUGE following in arizona.... problem is 80% of those fans are fair whether. When a team in AZ wins, this town backs them like no other. Problem is loyalty, when they lose people will follow their "other" teams and forget until they start winning again. I was pissed in 97 when I went to the Chargers game and there was standing room only..... where were these people 2 weeks prior when the stadium had 25,000 fans sweating it out?

I'm all about the "Home" team so I wouldn't follow the Cardinals should they have moved to another city. First year or two maybe, but after that...they would be someone else's embarresment. lol :D

I would be a fan regardless of where they went; like an earlier poster said, if they became the "browns" or took on another existing teams' name, that might end it.

If their play on the field, and my moving to Chicago didn't make me abandon them, I don't think their moving would make any difference.

No doubt! The TV ratings for Cardinals games are nearly always the highest. A marque Monday night typically doesn't have the ratings of a televised Cards game.

Just look at the posters here on this board and tell me which team (admittedly these are diehard fans) generates the most interest.
