I know I'm likely going to get bashed for bringing this topic up, I'm braced and prepared for it, and still am going to proceed.

Understand this disclaimer: this entire thread is based off hypothetical situations only. I realize the reality of things, but again everything posted here is purely hypothetical.

Let's suppose the Diamondbacks have a 100 percent healthy Brandon Webb at their disposal. Let's say the trade deadline is upon us, and the market for a pitcher of Webb's caliber is high. Let's assume that the Diamondbacks are out of contention with no chance of making a run at the West or the Wild Card.

Here comes the question:

Do you trade Webb if the right offer comes around?

Again, please read beyond the "Trade Webb" part before answering the question. By no means am I insinuating that Webb should be given away for anything less than market value, which by my standards should net the team at MINIMUM two or three top level prospects; preferrably one or two of them being Major League ready.

Let's debate this. What do you think? Pros and Cons to moving him?

You move him as soon as possible. He'll want huge dollars, therefore you move him and build around Haren

Depends upon how injured he really is and if it is something that will re-occur. If it is then you trade him if you can get something worth while. Otherwise, I'd say only if the trade is something that would be very difficult to refuse. Just about every player can be traded if the price is right.

Webb is still under contract for next season, he doesn't necessarily need to be moved this year. BTW, I don't think this is such a taboo question to pose. If you gauge the opinion of the general "rah rah" fan who is still alternating between their Jay Bell and Mark Grace jersey, then yes, the answer is going to be hostile.

This is what sucks about Phoenix, there are too many fair weather fans that get caught up in the players over the team. I recall the number of "if the cardinals don't re-sign Warner I will never root for this team ever again" calls that plagued the radio this offseason

I would look at the Rangers and there farm system if Webb was going to be traded. If we could get a hold of one of there young arms and a guy like Smoak I would be more than happy.

I'd trade him a heartbeat for a bunch of hungry young prospects. Like it or not, the Dbaks are not a wealthy team right now.

That's exactly the type of deal I'm talking about.

I also think the Indians have a pretty nice looking farm system, and a deal of Matt LaPorta, Michael Brantley and David Huff would be the type of deal I'm talking about making for Webb.

Thanks. I'm glad that the gist of this isn't taken out of context, because it's really not that far fetched from reality.

He's still young enough (30) where a contender could make a play for him and logically get him in the prime of his career and have him at a high level for the next 4-5 seasons. For a team looking to make an immediate splash, Webb would be a great pickup. For the DBacks, they have to eventually think for the future though.

I hear you Ryan. We listened to that same ******** when Gonzo left and when Byrnes' contract status was up in the air. My view, you can't root for a team because a specific player leaves, you weren't a fan to begin with. I've always lived by the mantra of "I don't care what the name on the back of the jersey reads, I root for them because of the name on the front of the jersey."

If you can grab a quality starter in return and a young - maybe unproven BIG bat, I would do it...

The Yankees would take him off our hands.... however you aren't going to get much back in terms of prospects unless you want Joba the Hut
