I actually don't think the UFL is a bad option for him. He isn't going to get a starting gig in the NFL this year. He needs to prove he can still play the position.

The UFL?

Wow.

I wouldn't advise that unless it was the only option, I'd sitout a year first before going to that plan.

Someone will pick him up as a backup cheap at least.

Only problem is if he sits out this year, he will probably miss 2 years, since it looks like a long lockout is looming. Two years without playing is a near death sentence in the NFL...just ask Michael Vick how it's going.

Carolina is justifiably a lot higher on Matt Moore than they would be on Leinart, I think.

At this stage, Leinart has a lot less value to anybody else because he won't know the system. He'd have been a 1000 times better off getting cut a few months ago. I don't think he'll be getting meaningful playing time for anyone this season.

Matt will be backing up DA this year with the Cardinals. Why? Becuase as much as ML may think otherwise, it's not personal with Whiz. If something happens to DA, Matt gives us the best chance to win (I think) over the two rookies.

Go Cards.

Not only that but this is the best chance for him to start this year for 2 reasons

1) The chances of DA stinking up the joint and getting benched as a result are high.

2) The chances of DA getting hurt behind an Oline that hasn't been passblocking well is also high

Of course this also depends on how bad the situation has gotten with ML and Whiz

Arizona -

There's a fourth option other than cut Leinart, trade him or keep him as a backup.

Keep both QB's as co-equals.

In my opinion, neither is a "complete" QB, but each does compliment the other in terms of key strengths and weaknesses (Derek can gun it vertically but is ham-handed trying to hit receivers in the short game. Matt struggles to push the ball downfield to move the chains, but throws nice touch outlet passes to guys out of the backfield).

Then there are a whole bunch of areas where neither QB has been adequately tested:

- Who's best in the red zone?

- Who runs the best 2-minute offense?

- Who's best running the no-huddle?

- Who do you want in there when you're 3 TD's down?

- Who'd be best at protecting a lead?

- When pass pro is shaky, who's the most mobile? Who's the best improviser? Who protects the ball the best?

- Who's the better ball-handler? Who best executes play action fakes?

- Who has better ball-location (i.e. does the best job of not hanging his receivers out to dry)?

My point - Different opposing matchups and game-situations call for different "answers" in the form of the QB we put out there. Since neither of the two QB's is all that well-rounded, why not keep both and use either of them depending on the situation?

I realize this breaks with the CW (stating that a team has to have only one "The Guy"), but Wiz has successful precedence for doing this in the past - when Warner would come in to relieve Leinart 2 or 3 seasons ago.

Agree completely.

The only thing I can think of that "might" lead to Matt being cut is Ben Roethlisberger had a pretty decent rookie season with Whiz in charge of the Offense. I suspet Max Hall can pick up the playbook faster than Ben did.

I'm not sure Ben's coming out of Miami, OH gave him any better pedigree than Hall has coming out of a pretty successful BYU program.

I guess we'll know for sure this weekend.

Go Cards!!!

if i was matt and had to wait til da got hurt before I got any game time after being anointed the starter in the off season,
and knowing what his supporting cast thinks of his skills,

i would come in drop back three times and throw the ball into the ground,
if he came in still being able to draw on any fire or competitive spirit after all the dicking around he has dealt with this season,

then he's a better man than I, I would say a consummate professional

but i do tend to hold on to grudges way to long, its a recognized weakness that i am well aware of,
and its to my determent that i hold on to anger when i should let it go , it will over time imprison you

Lombardi on NFLN said that the Cardinals really wanted Whitehurst in the offseason and tried to trade Leinart for him and Carroll turned them down.

This information was new to me and the effect left me feeling like Lombardi, along with everyone else in the media, is just lathering themselves into a frenzy piling on to Leinart. Lombardi was presenting the info, IMO, as further evidence that Leinart is so bad that no one wants, he'll never start in the NFL and he'll be lucky to not be out of the NFL. Warren Sapp, to no surprise, expressed similar thoughts.

This witch hunt would be amusing if it wasn't so scary and sad.

Oh, when doing the mental checklist of potential teams that aren't really that set at QB I also came up with Jacksonville. Not that I really think he'll end up there since I have no basis for my opinion other than not really liking Garrard as a QB.

It did spark the idea that with all the rumors of the Jaguars being the team that might move to LA, Leinart might get a chance to "go home".
