I really can't stand Brett Favre

He may be selfish--again, so what? He's only a man with all of the faults that come with that.

And again, it's not a "love of the game." It's a love of playing football and competing. There's a subtle difference: he's not holding the "game" in the same reverence as you; he just wants to keep doing what he loves to do. I can't blame him for that.

And the Vikings give him the best chance of getting back to the superbowl. I don't think he's playing there to stick it to the Packers. If the Chargers needed a QB to complete their puzzle I'll bet he'd be playing there instead.

I just don't see why the fans feelings on the matter should be of concern to Favre. There are plenty of reasons why what he did was *******, but I don't think making NFL fans insane is one of them.

Very valid point, I understand where you're coming when referring to the competitive nature of his love of the game; missed that before.

When you state, "Selfish, so what?" I find selfishness one of the more despicable human vices, he seems to be exhibiting it in spades.

I think he's made his share of bad(premature?) choices but at this point, I really believe he's just playing up the drama as a goof.

All of this stems back to the Packers demanding he make a decision about his future before he was ready to do so. They already had Aaron Rodgers so I think they played their hand poorly if the fans are really what this conversation is about.

Aside from that aspect though, Favre and the Packers both made the right choice. Favre went to a team that had a shot at the postseason and the Packers found out they have a QB who can play while they deal with rebuilding their defense. Favre didn't want to be on a 6 win team which is exactly what the Packers would have been had he been there instead of Rodgers.

All the media coverage is 1/2 Favre and half the media/fans. Maybe Favre should just say no comment to everything but I don't blame him for the media camping out on his front lawn and telling us every iota of information about him.

Ultimately, I don't blame Favre because anyone who says they would just walk away from being handed the starting job of an NFL team is a liar. Anyone who says they would turn down $12M from one team in honor of another team's fans is a liar too.

The one that already Aaron Rodgers on the roster and didn't need to worry about a QB contingency plan? There's always a Brunell or Kitna or whatever vet QB floating around if worse came to worse.

I think it was much more of a pissin' contest between the GM and Favre. Thompson had no vested interest in Favre so he was just trying to impose his will and show who was boss. Favre didn't like it and he was used as an example of "my way or the highway".

Neither the Packers or Favre had the fans in mind when all of this was going down.

yea the same Packers team that waited, and waited for him to make a decision only to hear him say yes, I'm retired, and moved on with a better quarterback. yes, that packers team, and those packers fans who are now dealt with deciding whether to still idolize a hero of theirs.

In truth I find the whole thing really entertaining but Brett Farve and his purple uniform is the side show.
All the people expressing so much consternation over if, where, when, and how Farve plays and what kind of person that makes him is the main event.

Yeah, well, Favre and Rodgers being two differnt styles of QB (back then), it wasn't just the QB position they would have had to worry about if he did or did not return. So, yeah, he was still sticking it to the team.

Also, I won't begin to know what Thompson's motives were, but he comes out much more rosy to me because his action was to basically cut through all the drama and the crap--we need to know if you'll be back or not. Thompson wasn't willing to do the whole offseason drama dance AGAIN, and for that I applaud him.

I remember way back when Dan Dierdorf would always do that, pull a hammy or bad back or something, skip all of camp, then get voted to the probowl, but he hated camp.
