That's funny and I can appreciate that creation, but it's far from truthful. Has Oregon had players with problems you bet. Has any coach done what he has done in response to those problems? Absolutely not!
Unlike LSU and others who had similar violations in player Condit Chip Kelly didn't just give his players a slap on the wrist. How many coaches on a top 10 contending team would suspend their stars in the manner he has.
LeGarrette Blount suspended by Oregon for 10 games and only saw limited part-time action for the last two.
After a Rose bowl appearance kicked off starting senior quarterback Jeremiah Masoli on what was a team that ended up playing in the national championship game. They would have been much better off with their star veteran than a first-year stater at quarterback.
Wide receiver Jamere Holland kicked off the team.
Cliff Harris CB was kicked off the team. These aren't just no buddies and were talking about a team that's in hunt for a Rose Bowl or national championship almost every season over the last five years. This is what they had to say about Harris.
While some Duck fans will wash their hands of Harris, I can't do that. He leaves Oregon as the most exciting and talented cover corner I've ever seen play for the Ducks. He had instincts that you can't teach. Last season, he made
Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, and
Matt Barkley look silly with some great interceptions.
Every program has their problem child but I've never seen a program as close to the top hand out their own punishments that are this severe. They were not forced by the NCAA they were Oregon in-house punishments.
Anyways I can appreciate a good and humorous slap and that's a good one but Oregon has a low tolerance for troubled players and has proven that by the way they handle them.
