Here is my take, as a lifelong diehard St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals fan:

Anquan Boldin is 28. He is an extremely talented and driven individual who, through hard work, determination and talent, has made himself into one of the best wide receivers in football.

In 2003-2004, his rookie year, he had 101 catches and was the only rookie selected to the Pro Bowl. He was named 2004 Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has set NFL records for most yards in a rookie's first game (217), for the most receptions in the first 26 games of an NFL career (157), for the fastest player ever to catch 300 balls (47 games), and for the fastest player ever to catch 400 balls (67 games).

In 2005, he was injured and missed some games. Nevertheless, he still was able to catch more

In 2005, Boldin was injured and missed part of the season but yet still was able to catch more than 100 passes for over 1,400 yards. He did this even though teammate Larry Fitzgerald also caught over 100 balls.

In 2006, Boldin caught 83 balls for over 1,200 yards.

In 2007, in playing in 12 games, still caught 71 balls for 853 yards and 9 touchdowns.

In 2008, again playing in 12 games, managed to catch 89 balls for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He has been named to the Pro Bowl three times: 2004, 2007, and 2009.

On September 28, 2008, he was carted off the field after a violent helmet-to-helmet collision in the end zone against the New York Jets, knocking him unconscious. The Cardinals were losing that game 56-35, with 27 seconds remaining, and despite catching 10 balls for 119 yards and a touchdown, Boldin still went across the middle in an attempt to score. He sustained fractured paranasal sinuses. He literally broke his face.

Regardless, Boldin refused any pain medication, underwent surgery on his face, and missed only 2 games. He returned, and on December 7, 2008, became the first player in Arizona Cardinal franchise history to gain 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons.

The Cardinals, realizing after 2005 that Boldin's contract was a joke compared to his production, gave him a raise to the tune of 4 years and $22.75 million.

Since then, Boldin's productivity has remained extremely high and his work ethic has remained strong.

Boldin says that the Cardinals promised him another raise before the start of the 2008 season.

I believe him. I believe him because he has consistently, and over several years now, given his heart and soul to this franchise. If he says the Cardinals promised him a raise and then broke that promise, I believe him.

In response to this broken promise, Boldin was mad. He has asked to be traded to a different team, and stated he would never sign with the Cardinals again.

To me, he has earned the ability to say these things. Despite the unbelievable ability of Larry Fitzgerald, Boldin was only 11 catches and one touchdown shy of matching Larry's 2008 regular season numbers, in four fewer games than Fitzgerald played.

Does Boldin's performance, leadership, determination, drive, heart, and passion make him worth almost $20 million dollars less than Larry.

No, it doesn't. The Cardinals promised him a raise and renegged on that promise. Regardless, Boldin has not let up on one play.

My beef lies squarely with the Arizona Cardinals. Anquan has consistently held up his end of the bargain, and given his all to them. He believed them when they promised a raise, yet played his guts out when they broke that promise.

Pay him - "leverage" or not. He deserves it.

Didn't they try to re-sign him before Fitz, and he said "no" and wanted to wait 'til after Fitz signed? Well, guess he's still at "wait".......

Q can waiting in line or simply play out his contract. Either way I'm done worrying about his future.

And if the team tried to re-sign him, and he said no, then the team did fulfill their "promise" to try and renegotiate, at which point all bets are off. So I feel the team did follow through, and Q put a stop to it (Q, Drew, whatever). THAT for me, among other things, is why I side with the team......

We only have Boldin's side of the story, I believe. If anyone can ever get a Cards FO personel on the record with their side of the story, we can meet in the middle an figure out what really went on with that situation.

so you're saying the cardinals should pay him whatever he wants? i am notorious for bashing the organization, but who is to say they haven't approached him with a renegotiation but it wasn't as high as boldin wanted? what you fail to recognize is that boldin was free to renegotiate or refuse to do so at the time of his last contract. he opted for immediate security in the form of a bonus. you give something (the ability to continuously negotiate higher and higher contracts) to get something (immediate security). the man signed a contract, i say he should honor it. no one forced him to do so. so now he's not exactly holding up "his end of the bargain" . . . is he? 'cuz "his end of the bargain" is to play, not fake injuries. the cards "end of the bargain" is to pay the contract amount that Q negotiated with them over the period negotiated. (i advise you not to haphazardly misuse phrases that can be thrown back at you in the future)

I support Anquan also, but he is dead wrong in how his is going about this. He shouldn't have signed the last contract if he wasn't satisfied with it.

I have been a big Q supporter ever since he came here. And I really really do not want to see him go elsewhere. I think he is really a special player and the combo of him and Fitz scares the hell outta every team in the league, especially after how Fitz stepped up in the playoff's!

I see Q's side and agree to a certain extent. But I also see the organizations side and agree to a certain extent. They made an offer, he turned it down because he was more concerned with what Fitz was gonna get. He should have looked at it and decided for himself if it was what would make him happy. If not then start negotiating. I do believe the Cards have every intention of getting him a deal, but the fact is he signed a deal and accepted all that bonus money and still has 2 years left on the deal. The Cards probably screwed up even mentioning the idea of extending him until they knew they could do it. Will he get Fitz money here or anywhere else ? No I dont think so! Does he deserve Fitz money? No I dont think so. But he does deserve to be in the same zip code as what Fitz got.

The problem is he is killing his own leverage by acting like this. And as much as he likes to say he is a grown a$$ man, he is acting like a spoiled brat and a true puppet of Drew! I have met Drew and I can tell you this, the guy gives you the creeps. He is a slimy little rat faced snake and all it takes is one hand shake and a few words for you to know it. But he signs these big names and he does get them the money. But in the process he ruins guys names. And I really thought a guy like Q would value his name and reputation just as much as he would anything else. I guess I was wrong.

I own 2 Boldin jerseys and most likely will be sporting a Wilson jersey from here on out.

And while I am at it, Dansby has lost all of my respect as well. He is clearly using the Cards for the paycheck and has NO intention of being here next year.

Dockett should get his wish ! Trade his sorry a$$! He has some real value and really I think he has shown just how fake he is too! After all his talk about how this is a team and how this is for the fans etc. I wonder if he already burnt through the $7 million in bonus and cant figure out how to live on the $3-4 million a year he is making now?

Yeah, Boldin screwed himself over compleatly and utterly when he wanted to wait and let the Fitz deal set the parameters. What he should have realized was that he wasn't going to get a mega-contract like Fitz, and that by waiting until Fitz's deal was done, he only made it that much less likely he would 'get paid'. Stupid move on his part, and instead of taking it like a man and owning responsibility for it, he has constantly whined and tried to turn it back on the organization. Sorry, Q, but you made your own bed. Now lie in it for the next two years at a bargain-basement contract. Deal.

You fail to mention that the Cards rewarded him already for his accomplishments by tearing up his rookie contract well before its expiration and giving him a new deal, where which Q and his current agent agreed to the terms.

He is a dichotomy of a player. He goes out and gives it his all on the field, even playing after having his face caved in, but in the same breath starts whining, complaining and faking hamstring injuries to try and leverage the FO to get a contract done. And the person to blame is Rosenhaus, as this is how all of his other clients go about business.

Boldin's used to have this great warrior reputation in this league, but ever since he became Rosenhaus's puppet, that reputation has just about withered away.

Great Post denverbirdfan, and great points. I also wish this signing would get done so that he would be happy. Unfortunately, AW is first in line because his contract is up this year, unlike Boldin's next year. Boldin will get his extension and I agree its more than well deserved; but he'll have to wait behind Adrian Wilson now to get it. God Bless You!

I support giving Anquan an extended contract.

I have no problem with him skipping voluntary workouts because he is unhappy with his contract.

I DO have a problem with him faking an injury to avoid working during a mandatory mini-camp.

I do support negotiating new contracts with Karlos and Adrian BEFORE Anquan.

I don't like the snail's pace at which this franchise gets big contracts done.

I really wish there was something else to discuss besides Boldin, Dockett and contracts.

Like he said.

If Boldin and Dockett feel they're overperforming re their original contracts, a solid incentive element in each contract would have taken care of that.

If there was no appropriate incentive package in that contract, shame on Rosenhaus. That's whom they should direct their ire at. Why haven't they fired his ass.

No they're not. And we have the 5-11 records to prove it.

This outfit has TWO winning seasons in 25 years. Boldin has produced every year he's been in Arizona. I'm with the players on this. Tell the Cards FO to get back to me when they've won more games than they've lost more than once every ten years.

really i think everyone screwed this one up. i think the FO has a history of bungling public relations, likely promised Q something and now can't come up with the cheddar to appease him. i think Q signed a contract extension which made him extremely wealthy, at a time when the cards need not have done so and now looks awful not living up his contract by contriving a bs injury. i think Q compounds this all by behaving like a bi-atch. rosen-rosen may be scum, but he's just doing his job and the dirty work for Q. plenty of blame to go around.

I don't think that Boldin would have gotten 393 yards during those 11 catches in order to match Fitz's 2008 production.

Unless there is no cap, no team can afford to pay a player for what he has meant to a team but must pay him for what he is worth on the field now and what his future performance could be worth. Fitz got payed a mega contract and his performance then put the value of what that contract's numbers are, Boldin is not the same caliber of player as Fitz and he must get over it, this is no bad thing because a lot of good WRs are not as good as Fitz.
