Did we make a deal with the devil?

Week 6, Chicago at Arizona, a defining moment for the Cardinals and their coach, Denny Green, and their offensive coordinator, Keith Rowen. The Cardinals are driving for the victory. The Bears can't stop them, no matter what defense they throw up. Rookie QB Matt Leinart is killing them with underneath passes, the same way Peyton Manning did in the Super Bowl ... ironic, huh? Down the field they come. Theismann has talked to Rowen, who told him that he knew he could beat the Bears this way ... if only Green would let him do it, but the coach was bugged by Edgerrin James bitching about not being permitted to close out the contest. This was the knowledge that Theismann had in the booth, and at one point in the drive, he muttered, "Don't stop throwing." It just popped out.

But they did stop. They reached the Chicago 23-yard line and brought in two tight ends and two running backs, the ultimate give up.

Well, the Cards' heavy offense was stopped and they missed the field goal and lost the game. And in his postgame press conference Green went into some contrived rage thing about how the Bears were "anointed." And then he made Rowen the scapegoat and fired him. The viewers of ESPN could have been privy to all this ahead of time, they could have been in on a real scoop.

Green was nothing but a big bag of wind ... had me all excited when we first hired him and he talked a big game .. but was a zero on delivering results ...

The Cards did make a deal with the Devil. But it was back in 1947. They got their championship and we've been in hell ever since.

I 100% supported his hiring and even though he failed, I think the talent on this team is better and we are closer to being a playoff team (both aided by Green) then when he got here . However, Green could not make us win and now I am 100% supportive of the Whiz.

I was excited about Green... I was fooled, but he did improve the team alot. He just couldn't get them to win.

He shot himself in the foot too many times trying to make a point. He let his Ego beat him...

I think Whizz is gunna be a breath of fresh air. But I seem to be wrong more than not with this team...

Thank you for ths info! I heard this about 3 months ago but I paidno attention to it before, but now I agree with what you have reported. Now that right there cost us the play-offs and probably Matt becoming Rookie of the year. DG really suhs for not admitting to his mistakes and blming someone else and costing him his job and probably any other future jobs in te NFL.

Well, Whis seems like a "go for the jugular" kind of guy, so hopefully we can kiss this change with the wind attitude. That's what we've been missing is the instincts of a coach who wants to decimate his opponent. Someone who won't play it "safe." Safe has gotten us squat. Here's to a killer mentality!

And here's to DG!

If we win that game we are probably in the playoffs.

That was a franchise changing game that was screwed up by the Green's ego.

I disagree. The killer game was against the Rams. That was messed up by Kurt Warner's small hands or a dumb play call involving a pulling guard.

People forget the Cards were 1-4 and had blown yet another home game against KC by the time they played the Bears.

I'm not as down on Green as a HC as most of you guys, but that said:

"If you're going to be arrogant, you'd better be right."

Ok, both games would count as that.

Cool.

I know that if the Cards had won the Rams game I wouldn't have been expecting them to find a way to lose to the Bears 24-23 when the score was 23-10.

Gentlemen,

Why torture yourselves about those games? Move on and prepare for the KoolAid Bowl (draft). :)

I am stunned I tell you, I did not see this coming, Green lied about Rowen?

Oh well, Rowen got another job although he had to take a demotion, but at least assuming this is public knowledge in the NFL it won't harm his
rep.

Sure trashes Green's rep.

Maybe Edge was so insistent on giving Shipp those goal line carries to deflect his involvement in this. It makes you realize how much stuff goes on behind the scenes that we'll never be privy too.
