denver will play no starters tonight at all. it's a no-win situation for us to. if we play starters and score easily, we were playing scrubs. if we get outplayed by scrubs, then we suck more than scrubs. and then there's the risk of injury.

just let those guys on the bubble play and try to make the team. we don't need this.

has it been reported that we are playing starters? I didn't think any teams did for game 4.

Playing Starters

With a young OL, it's probably important that they get as many reps as possible. And with a new defense (3-4), the same theory applies. W-L doesn't matter, and you want the starters to be focused, even if it's only for a series or two. The Cards situation is somewhat clouded because KW doesn't want KW playing behind the second team OL, so I'm guessing KW doesn't play. Shane Boyd, who has shown improvement, will once again get the lion's share of the reps. Probably see the 4th string QB in the 4th Qtr.

I agree. Shanahan has the right idea, not playing his starters at all. Unfortunately, his backups might be as good as our starters. :(

Gambit:

Well, it appears that Ken Whisenhunt has his reasons, as reported by the AP:

New Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is going to make his starters earn their time off Thursday night.

"We're going to go one, maybe two series,'' Whisenhunt said. "If they play extremely well in the first series, maybe they'll be out.''

Arizona's second-year quarterback Matt Leinart has looked sharp, completing 17 of 23 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in his last two games. But the Cardinals are still harping on him to improve his footwork.

"It's a constant battle,'' Whisenhunt said. "He's been in some bad habits that are hard to break, and he's working hard to get out of those habits.''

Leinart said he just has "to get in a groove and get comfortable.'' But not too comfortable because he'll be in a baseball cap by the time the first quarter is over...

I'm sure that the Cards' rebuilt OL has something to do with giving the starters a couple of possessions, as well. Bottom line is, if Whisenhunt, Russ Grimm & Clancy Pendergast didn't think their first-line players would benefit from some reps against the Broncos' backups, they wouldn't play 'em.

In Whis we trust, right? ;)

With the consistency Denver has had in their coaching staff, there's no need to play the starters in the last preseason game. The Cardinals on the other hand, have gone through so many head coaches and OC's, that I think the extra reps in a game are warranted. Our guys are learning a new offense, again. I'm sure Whiz thinks they could use the extra practice inspite of the injury risk.
