The Red Sox are looking for a stopper and are trying to sign Foulke from Oakland. Boston is also looking for a second baseman. They don't look like they will be bring back Todd Walker.

Maybe the Diamondbacks can trade Mantei and Spivey for Trot Nixon. Nixon would bring some pop to the line-up and will play right.

I wouldn't. Nixon is a decent player but not the type of player I'd want everyday in right field. Conversly, I'm not on the trade Spivey bandwagon quite yet. You'd be sending roughly the same amount of power production via 2nd base for a right fielder. Not a good trade off in my opinion.
In fact, I'd much rather having Spivey playing 2nd base next year instead of Hillenbrand at 3rd.

Junior was having an all-star caliber year early in 2002 until he was moved to Gonzo's #3 spot, and he hasn't been the same since.

Shea is much more suited for the 3rd spot and I don't think has been used there once. Plus the moves between 1B and 3B and up and down the latter part of the batting order.

I don't blame Spivey or Hillenbrand for not reaching their potential during the 2nd half of 2003. And, if leadership stays the same, why would it change?

Brenly did announce that Shea will play strictly at 3B next year, one small step for the D'backs falling from contention (if he sticks with it).

Yeah, Spivey is going to be a solid 2B for years in this league, he is a solid guy.

He's going to be 29 in January. When does the monster potential kick in? He doesn't have great baseball sense. He's inattentive. He's not shown much discipline. He's muscled up to a point where it may have reduced his quickness.

Junior has had one great half to go with three mediocre ones over the past two years... Potential is the saddest word in sports that just means you haven't done %#&* yet... and the D'backs have a LOT more in the farm system who are younger and cheaper. . . and don't continually make the unending mental errors that he comes up with.

I'll be surprised if the D'backs still have Junior on the roster come Spring training. Though scouts from other organizations may have already seen through positive hype about his "potential"
