If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
The writing is on the wall and I was wrong. I thought Matt Leinart would be our starting QB this year. Barring injury, I was sure of it. Everything I have seen, and know, indicated he was the choice most likely to lead us to victory. It will not come to pass.
Coach Whisenhunt is making a bold and vastly unpopular decision. I do not understand the reasoning behind it, but I believe our Coach sees it as clear as the Phoenix sun. Perhaps Coach believes that with Matt our ability to succeed is limited and he wants more than 9-7. Perhaps he is willing to roll the dice on DA having a one in four chance of having a pro-bowl season. I don’t know. I do trust Coach to make the decisions he believes are necessary to win a championship. That does not mean I believe he is right.
I would rather be wrong and win, than to be right and fail. The future is unwritten. Coach Whisenhunt has permanently stamped his image on this team. To the players and the fans, there is no doubt who the boss is.
To those who dislike Matt I say: do not gloat in a man’s defeat. You do not know the final outcome.
To those who love Matt I say: it is not fairness in life which builds character. Do not shed a tear for one so blessed with talent.
To those who think our Coach is an idiot or liar I say: Your judgment is not the one that matters and you do not hold the same facts as he.
And, to those who say “In Whiz We Trust”: I remind them he is just a man, capable of grave error.
Our coach appears to have made “the tough choice”. If Matt had become our QB for three years of wandering in the desert of mediocrity, would we be satisfied? I say no. If Derek fails miserably, will we be satisfied with “I told you so”? Again, I say no.
I was wrong in my expectations, but, I love OUR team. Rise up Red Sea. Our Coach is shocking the world and ours. This is not the time to turn and run. Now is the time for us to Do This Together.
