I'm not a Wilks fan. My concern on firing him is that there seems to be a shortage of good candidates especially with offense experience. There could also be maybe 8 HC openings so the Cards would be in competition for any real good candidates. Some on this Board will say anyone will be better than Wilks. But we don't need another crappy coach.

You have to keep swinging until you find a guy you can trust your team with. Failure again will stress the budget. That said, Wilks is probably below replacement level and is an active drain on your team. I don't think that someone like John DeFillipo would be worse.

There are fine candidates out there.

Reich wasnt considered even a head coach candidate and probably did the best job so far
Reich was a really good coach and I loved him with the Chargers.

I'm grasping too. How about Freddie Kitchens who is OC for the Browns and long time coach with the Cards.

As long as he doesn’t bring Goodwin or that ST coach who shall not be named with him...couldn’t be worse than what they have now.

not a sexy pick, but I wonder if Jay Gruden survives in Washington

I think he is an under-rated offensive mind

I think my problem is that all of the people the Cardinals were linked to last offseason wasn't exactly inspiring.

Munchak? Armstrong? That LB coach from the Pats? Wilks?

And the best were ones NOT linked to the Cardinals (Reich/Nagy). I'm concerned that maybe, just maybe, Mike B has lucked into a few winning combos that worked for a time but were undone as the league caught up to them (Whis and Arians).

I think that it was just the natural swinging from one extreme to the other. Arians was a relaxed, fairly undisciplined, offensive coach. Michael Bidwill decided he wanted the opposite. FWIW, that worked pretty well when transitioning from Whis to Arians.

I didn't like Arians, but what I learned from that process what that I don't really have enough information to make a good decision when a guy is hired. There's an alchemy that happens inside the walls of Hardy Drive that we're not privy to as fans (even fans with the kind of access that comes with suites and lofts). #Joefan probably isn't qualified to evaluate the decision.

A lot of people thought it was HILARIOUS that the Rams hired a college intern as their head coach.

I do agree with your point here. I was lukewarm on Arians but was hopeful since he had success as an offensive coordinator and interim head coach (I think the Colts would've traded Pagano for Arians if they could redo history).

Whisenhunt also had the pedigree of success as an offensive coordinator and he seemed fairly organized. Wilks is similar to Whisenhunt, but I don't think he had as many good assistants as Whisenhunt did.

I think I'd look at a Pete Carmichael or someone that has been around for awhile and has a feel for the NFL game. Wilks seemed to only pull Carolina guys and I don't know if he has the network needed to pull a good group of assistant coaches.

I hate to say this out loud - being a huge Purdue fan - but I highly suspect Jeff Brohm will be talked about a lot in the next couple of years as an offensive-minded HC.

I just don't want him to leave yet.

I think Lincoln Riley will be the next offensive wiz kid in the league. Cards should get ahead of the curve on him

How about a tryout for the rest of the season with McCarthy and DeFilippo. It can't get any worse.
DeFilippo's offense didn't score until the final minute of play yesterday. His playcalling inside the 5 was atrocious.

Who would that be? McVay has been in the NFL since 2008.

Maybe Wilks is a good coach if you give him a few years... but if I am Mike Bidwill, do I want to trot Wilks back out on the field in 2019 when he has lost the fans (and maybe many of our players)?

I didn't watch that game, but I will take the offensive minds of McCarthy and DeFilippo over Wilks.

Has he lost the players?
