I crunched some numbers, and it is very possible that the Cards could end up with the 6th pick if they win 1 more game. As it stands right now the Cards have a tougher schedule (winning % of opponents) than the Chargers, Raiders, and Lions, and are basically tied with Jacksonville.

If the Chargers lose this week and then beat the Raiders, the Raiders lose both weeks, Jacksonville loses both weeks, Detroit loses both weeks, and Atlanta loses both games we will end up with the 6th pick.

If this scenerio plays out here is how the draft order would go:

1. Atlanta
2. San Diego
3. Detroit
4. Oakland
5. Jacksonville
6. Arizona

I have never rooted against the Cards, but I might the next two weeks.

On a more positive note, if the Cards lose both games and the Chargers beat the Raiders we will end up with the first pick regardless of what the Falcons do because the Falcons have a very strong schedule.

Picking 6th would most likely put us out of the running for Eli, Ben R., Larry Fitzgerald, and even Shaun Taylor. Yikes!!!

yeah that game scares me too - especially because I'm going to it - as is the former "jinx" of all Phoenix sports - my best friend and his father - not to mention they've won every single game, preseason, regular season or intersquad scrimmage I've been to this year - if it's close in the fourth - I might have to leave the stadium!

For the good of the team go in a Moss jersey. I know it is painful but sometimes we have to take one for the team.

I'll take the wins. The draft will work itself out.

:stupid:

I still want to see the team win, and Josh to do well. From the sounds of it there are 2 legit QBs in the draft and we should get one.

i think y'all are being incredibly short-sighted in wishing for a win at the end of a lost season. if i could guarantee you that two losses this season would equal manning/roth;lskdfjaosdnerger PLUS and average of 8+ wins/season for 5 seasons (let's not get greedy) at some close future period verses one or two wins this year PLUS a non-QB in the draft PLUS 4-6 wins forever, which would you take? what if i couldn't guarantee the former, but increase the chances of it by 80%? 75%? or even 55%? i'd like to take the chance.

That's the problem. You can't gaurantee anything. Including Rothlisghrebnfhk being gone by pick #6. I'll take every win we can get. The draft is a crapshoot no matter where we pick.

i just can't believe it's a crapshoot. well, maybe for the cards, but not for other teams. if that was truly the case then good teams would become bad and vice versa, and, as we've seen, most good teams, despite parity, stay or good, or don't stay down long, and most bad teams have, at most, one or two up years and then return to cardinalland (i'll just name garbageville after the cards, 'cuz we've been permanent residence). i cannot guarantee that the qbs are gonna be great, but there is hope in them more so than most any other position, to eventually make this team a contender.

the pieces around brett favre have changed through the years, but the reason that team is still competitive year in and year out is favre. i want a favre and this draft may offer us one. and i know he wasn't taken in the first round, but you have a much greater rate of success at finding good talent in the first round than in any other, so i say we gamble with the best odds on our side. lose, lose, lose. at least this way you can be happy when the inevitable happens!

I really think it's just we're all raised to be so competitive that it's difficult to think losing games can be good. If we hadn't beaten atlanta a few years ago we'd have had the #1 pick and a shot at Peyton manning, we wouldn't have picked him because of Jake, but that win cost us the chance.

2-3 years ago I believe one win was the difference between us getting Vick and San Diego, who traded him to Atlanta. Again we may have traded him, I hope not, but one win can make a huge difference in a franchise.

as much as I disliked Cleveland tanking NBA games last year it's pretty hard to NOT agree it was worth it to increase their lottery odds and add LeBron James. And I was one of the bigger doubters of LeBron, but his impact has been enormous financially and it's starting to pay off with some wins on the court too.

Takes longer for a QB to make an impact in the NFL than LeBron in the NBA, but there clearly are arguments that the best thing for the Cards is to lose. It's just goes against everything we've all been raised to think.

i completely understand russ. that's why i find myself yelling at the television when the cards make gaffs, and hoping to see some glimmers of talent. but, at the same time, i am fervently hoping to lose all our games. unlike the cardinals organization (and i know i'm generalizing here, 'cuz some change has been evidenced this year) i'm flexible enough to recognize when sumpin' ain't working, and the winning just won't work for us this season. it's in the organization's best interest to lose. so let's lose damnit!

But is it really??? The flaw in your argument is what top notch free agants want to sign with a 3-13 club?? Plus, there is no guarantee that Manning or Big Ben will be a savior.

And worst of all, if our "can't miss" hotshot QB doesn't work out, you'll be the first to bitch about drafting one of them and missing out on some hot shot pass rusher who was picked behind our guy.

Good point.

The Vikings lost back-to-back games at San Diego and at Oakland by a combined score of 70-46.....and at that point of their season they could have put the Packers out of their misery.

Unless Moss just gives up I have a hard time seeing our CB's covering him in the finale.

he IS lazy, but if he has any pride whatsoever he should get 8-10 catches for 150 yards and 2 scores unless we just double him every play.

I think people are putting too much stock in the Carolina game, they are one of the few good clubs whose offense is not exlplosive enough to just torch us right now.

I think Seattle won't shut us out this time but I expect they'll put a lot of points up on us. I expect Minnesota can and will too, we turned Jeff Garcia from least popular to most popular 49er in one week not that long ago.

I'll be really disappointed if we tank the next two games to secure the potential of a #1 pick. I'll go on record as saying I don't want the #1 pick and certainly if it means "fiddling around to get it".

I want us to play inspired football and to see McCown play as well as he can in directing the offense to wins in the next two games. You see, I'm not a fan of drafting QB's in the #1 slot. Pure and simple. Sorry, nobody will ever be able to convince me that a rookie QB draft pick is worth the $20MM in signing bonus that it takes to sign them.

More important to me is to get Fassel in as our coach and for him to bring the necessary Assistant Coaches with him that can develop the talent that we have......and I think we certainly do have young talented players that are just a good coach away from being Pro Bowlers.

No, give me Fitzgerald (if he comes out) with the #4, #5 or #6 pick, a new coaching staff and one of the elite FA CB's and I'll head into round two one very happy camper!

I don't think any free agents are going to change their minds about coming here because we finish 4-12 or 5-11 instead of 3-13. Either way, I know the players and coaches will be trying to win. I just hope they don't :D .

If it means getting a guy who can be our Payton, McNair, Aikman etc. then I really hope we lose! And I think Eli can be that guy for us.

first of all, if i'm a "top notch" free agent a 3-13 team and a 4-12 or 5-11 team make no difference to me. one or two wins at the end of the season ain't gonna erase the pure, unadulterated crap that was the rest of the season.

secondly, whew, it's been a long time since someone generalized about me on this board, glad the offseason is coming so that i can have more of it heaped upon me. i stand by what i say. always have. have you heard any doublespeak outta me? have you seen me talk out of both sides of my mouth? if so, i dare you to show me where and when and what EXACTLY i said. at the time of this draft i said, unequivocably, that i wanted leftwich if he fell to us. i liked the drafting of rice and wadsworth and despite the fact that rice ended up being an idiot (albeit a very talented idiot) and that wadsworth was ultimately a bust, i never blamed the cardinals for drafting those two. why would i change my spots now?

this is just another shot at the darksiders. when the organization has done some good i've complimented them (see the almost on time draft picks, the injury waiver, the resignings). when the organization does something i think is stupid (see the draft trade, the letting boston go w/o trying to get comp by tagging him, or going into the season w/o proven receivers) i berate them. thus far, i think my record about what i laud and what i ridicule has been fairly accurate. if you want to pick a fight, why don't you try to figure out the appropriate target? thanks for playing.

and, i never said "can't miss" so why the hell put it in quotes like i said it? niiiiiice misrepresentation boy.

and why don't you chronicle everything i say from now on so that you can TRY to pinpoint me in an inconsistency that i don't own up to . . . you'll be waiting a long time to show it . . . jackass.

Not To Worry

Just play Hill one-on-one with Moss the entire game and use Marmies brilliant "play 11 yards off of the receiver" defense and you can be assured of the second pick in the 2004 NFL draft.
