Who would you cut to sign him?

Is Eddie George an upgrade over Marcel Shipp?

Would you cut Marcel & Emmitt to sign him (no idea of the cap implications here)?

What would we save if we cut Wendall Bryant.... enough to sign Eddie?

Thoughts....

Personally, I believe Eddie is an upgrade currently at the position and believe they should always make a move if they can improve a position with a quality player...... I believe Shipp could be a back given the opportunity but I don't think he is better right now than Eddie.

Yeah, Eddie is probably better than Emmitt, but I wouldn't really want either of them. It's just sad to watch Eddie at this point.

To whomever responds to this message:

Please do not paste the smiley face icon with the sign "Bring 'em in, it couldn't hurt"

If I see that one more time someone gets cut or is rummored to be cut soon, I think I will throw up.

I think you've been standing in the sun too long to make that remark. :doi:

okay, I just had to clean up the puke from my keyboard.

I guess I brought that on myself.

Anyway, masochist is spelled correctly.

The Cardinals have caused me much pain over the years.

I think it is a crazy idea and wouldnt do it, but to answer your question:

Singing bonus was 5.5 mill., divided over the life of the contract of 5 years = 1.1 mill. cap hit per year.

Numbers of years left on contract is 3 years, so the signing bonus that we owe him that would pro rate to today is 3.3 mill.

3.3 mill. would be the cap hit, but we have to minus his base salary of $380,000. So we would not save any money by dropping Bryant in fact we would take a cap hit of 2.92 mill.

Fair enough, just trying to think of someone making a boat load of money that has underperformed and a position where we have several players at his same level. Wendall came to mind....a 1st round pick that hasn't outperformed his peers on the team.... I really hope he picks it up this year....I would prefer he succeed and live up to his draft pick

Leave it to a Cardinal fan to know how to correctly spell "Masochist".

I don't consider his numbers showing that he's washed up....It's not that I think he's the best back in the NFL, he's not.... but is he better than where we are at now....His addition would improve the team as a whole....whether you cut Emmitt or Damien loose.....If you find a player that can improve your team you do it....and all you promise is a chance to compete for a starting position... If Shipp beats him out fair & square.... he's a back up.... and that is a good situation... depth is always good

He doesn't fit in the DG type back. But why give Shipp the money and tell him he's the #1 RB and then sign George? We need a change of pace back since Emmitt and Shipp can't turn around the corner. Btw signing George doesn't inprove our team IMO.

Wait..... Eddie is not better than Emmitt right now...or better than Damien Anderson or Scobey.....honestly, the only guy that has a shot at being more productive than George is Shipp and that's a close race

Thats not it though. I saw a couple of old games that has Bennett and Smith and in those games they run in the outside. Looking back in those DG team he always have a speed back and Power back. And the last two years George hasn't been the same since his injuries.

I understand your point about not being the Denny Green type back.....he's not Robert Smith or any other quick back that Minnesota had on their roster under Denny.....But he might compare to the Goal line guys he had in a Leroy Hoard type .....

My point is that right now, he would atleast be the 2nd best back on the team and if you have to cut one of the other backs to add him do it. Because each and every year, there will be free agents available or rookies we could draft that are better fits for Denny's system...

So far it looks like he is rising to the challange. After a shakey start he adjusted to what his new coach was asking for and they seem to be clicking now.

In his defence on the shakey start, going from Joe Greene to Deke Pollard was a huge change, more so I think than for anyother coach/position.

I agree, finally a Defensive Line coach that seems to be able to teach the young guys pass rushing techniques.....This will be the crucial season to see if there is hope with Wendall

I've been watching him teach as well, he is very focused on pass rushing technique.
