I really hope Suggs is there at #6, but if he is not then a trade with the Saints for their two number 1s would really be great. The Cardinals could probably get two positions of need - a pass rusher, and a deep threat early. This team needs a lot of help and those two early mid-1st round picks could be huge if used wisely. Rogers drug questions and the potential of Suggs to help his position with another workout makes the Suggs dream pick iffy.

In reading the Sporting News and other publications a lot of people are really starting to shy away form Suggs. We had better really know what we are doing when we use that #6 because these other teams are not idiots. If he is there when we draft there is a good reason and we had better know why.

No. But they do lie a lot just prior to the Draft. This is the point in the draft process where you must be disciplined enough to trust the judgement (and eyeballs) of your coaches and scouting dept.

Do not forget that -on the other side of the coin - Leeland McElroy posted awesome workout numbers. All it proved is that he was a heckuva a shuttle and cone runner, but sucked at football.

Play recognition, explosion around the edge and closing speed to the QB (i.e. over a much shorter distance) are far more important to an edge rusher than straight line forty-time.

Watch tape and film. See what Suggs did against very good competition. He may not be a track star, but he's an awesome football player.

Suggs basically failed to do what his agent had said he'd do, run a 4.6 and do more reps. That said I've seen it happen enough to know sometimes guys just don't workout well. Everyone clocked him in the 4.6's at ASU, he hasn't put on that much weight, his people swear he runs in the 4.6's in training, so I think we can get a steal if he really slides.

I am still up in the air on if we should draft Suggs. The only two I would be excited to see in red next year is Suggs and Lefty that is it. Pick one of those two or trade down. When is the draft anyways??

I talked to an ASU teammate and he said that he just had a bad workout and that isn't what he can do.

Suggs will be a great NFL player.

I guess if you say it enough, maybe you can will it to happen. :D

If the Cards draft Suggs, I am going to start a Official Suggs Excuse thread so we can dispense with all the excuses given when he fails to perform anywhere near the level people here want him to perform. He will, IMHO, be an average DE at best...sadly an upgrade for the Cards...but he will not dominate in any way.

There is no way..

in the world we pass on Suggs if he is there at #6. How good will he turn out to be? I don't know. I do know he can rush the passer. That to me is worthy of the #6 pick.

At this juncture, I have more evidence to back up my point of view. You could be right, and if he sucks I will readily admit it. I was so stoked about Plummer, and after he proved he sucked, I readily admitted it.

We shall see.

I question his run stopping ability. It is one thing for a DT to say I play the run on the way to the QB since he is in the middle...quite different for a DE to say it. I question his true pass rushing ability against the premier OTs in the world that he will be facing virtually every week. Who did he face this season that remotely compares to most NFL OTs?

I question his workout greatly. Cmon, his 40 time sucked and no matter what anyone thinks about a DE never having to run 40 yards at a time, this should throw up red flags for all. He got nervous for his workout? So we can assume he won't have nerves playing infront of 80,000 fans on the road?

I question the ease with which teams can negate his so called speed. A chip block alone can slow him enough to let an OT grapple with him and when that happens...say goodnight Gracie.

Personally, I hope I am wrong (and I probably am) because he does seem like a decent guy but I think he is set up to be the single biggest bust of the entire draft...and the Cards can do without yet another first round bust.

Anyone who thinks Suggs will be a bust, is outta their minds. Even if he has a unspectacular rookie year. Say he manages only 8 sacks, (I believe he'll get 12 or more) this kid is 20 years old!!! Do you realize the strides this kid can make before the age of 25??? He will without a doubt find himself in the company of Simeon Rice, Ken Harvey, Freddie Joe Nunn, & Al Bubba Baker, as One of the greatest most explosive pass Rushers to every wear the bird on their hat. Bad work out????yeah whatever

As long as you come back and take the heat when he doesn't, say what you want in whatever way you want. Yeah, his workout means nothing I guess. If it meant nothing, why did he feel he needed to have one? Why is there a combine at all if the workouts mean nothing like you seem to think? Answer me that, genius.

Well, I guess I am outta my mind.

Don't take it personal AZCB34:thumbup: Just a figure of speach, did'nt mean to rattle your cage... I just think it's ridiculous to speculate that the most dominant Player in College football, will be a bust, and he is'nt even drafted yet.. It's not like he's a skilled position player. QB, WR, RB where the learning curve is normally 1-3 years. He's a DE, his job is to get up the field on passing downs, & maintain gap assignments, & area assignments in run defense. Workouts are extremely over-rated. Production between the lines is what matters the most.........chill out baby!!! the draft is in 11 days.........

It is ridiculous to speculate he may be a bust but people can speculate he is going to be a great NFL player? Or others can speculate that due to his young age he will continue to develop and make strides yet we cannot suggest he will flop?

I didn't take it personally. No worries. Just disagree 100% that workouts mean nothing. If they didn't mean anything, there would be no combine or "pro" days.

I think the single biggest busts will be Palmer, Kennedy, and Newman. Newman's condition doesn't sound very good, Palmer was only good for eight games, and Kennedy has weight problems.

Workouts should be a tool to evaluate a players strength, agility, stamina, & athleticism..nothing more.. because a man did 19 reps does that mean he can't get stronger?? probably not. because he ran 4.8 does that mean he won't get faster??? probably not. Workouts should equate about 1 percent of a players evaluation maybe 2. Then it boils down to can this kid play football or not........JMO...your is different & that's cool....
