If Suggs is the guy: Do the Cards take the risk out of the equation and trade up?

It scares me that the Cards are still "torn" on who they want. I have given up hope that Leftwich is on their radar screen so now I want them to get Terrell Suggs because it is time for Mac to show that he is a legit head coach and if they lose out on Suggs the constant excuse can be lack of pass rush, give him another off season to develop the blasted "plan" blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

I think they need to trade up with the Bears and guarantee they get Terrell Suggs. Maybe the Bears pass on Suggs, maybe the Cowboys pass on Suggs, but knowing the Cards luck they are going to be sitting there at #6 and out of options and will either take a secondary guy or get shafted on a trade down situation.

What would it take to trade up to #4 with the Bears?

I think it would take them not thinking as much about Trufant as they do.
From what it sounds like, they're happy staying put unless someone is willing to give up more than their draft point system says they should.

First off: Why are you scared. Either which way, the will end up with a pretty good young player.

Second: I think you are assuming that they are "torn". It sounded pretty clear to me, listening to Graves, that they know who they like and which spot to take them. Graves CLEARLY said that we aren't enamored with one player.

Out of all possible scenarios, none is less likely than trading up.

Yeah - they won't trade up. After listening to graves today, he seemed willing to trade down though.

It's a rather simple concept, if the only need the Cards had was a RDE then yes they should trade up. The fact is there are several needs at this point and they can't give up draft picks.

If the Cards miss out on Suggs then they will either get a force at DT, a true cover CB, a franchise QB or a potential stud WR. At 6 the Cards will still get a blue chip prospect at an area of need. This is a win win scenario.

Trading up will cost at least a number 3 pick and there are too many players that have a ton of potential in that round. Plus who is to say that White, Redding, etc won't turn out to be better than Suggs. Someone like Peak may turn out to have the same impact as Colvin would have. KGB, Jason Taylor, Howard, Hugh Douglass etc are all great DE's that were taken after rd 1 and these are just a couple of examples.

The last point is that there are players on the current roster that may still prove to be the answer. Dennis Johnson and KVB still may prove to be more than adequate. Now I agree we can't pin all of our hopes on these 2 but the point is we aren't devoid of any talent at the DE position.

I would rather have 3 (or more) picks in the first 3 rds then 2 picks. Another FA period coupled with this draft and the Cards just may be in a position to trade up to fill a remaining need but this is not the case this year.
