AFC EAST

N.E. 13-3 The team went out and spent a gob on FA. Maroney will bust out and rush for 1300 yards. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Samuel will have another spectacular season will not be back after the season and Brady's WR will catch the ball.

NYJ 10-6 Will be in contention for the AFC East title until about late November. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Thomas Jones will have a terrific season and lead the AFC East in rushing behind a young, talented offensive line

MIA 7-9 Too many questions about QB. That coupled with an aging D will lead to a disappointing season in South Florida. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Ricky Williams will come back and have a terrible season <500 yards.

BUF 4-12 Too many losses in FA kills BUF. That lost too many starters to compete in the AFC East. J.P. Losman will not be as successful as last year, WHAT TO WATCH FOR BUF will have the best under-the-radar safety in the NFL in Donte Whitner.

AFC South

IND 12-4 Still the class of the AFC South. Age and salary cap issues start to become a factor as TEN and JAX become more competitive. WHAT TO WATCH FOR, Joseph Addai will be a beast and have over 1150 yards rushing. Look for Marlin Jackson to have a solid season.

TEN 9-7 Will be young talented and improved. VY will lead this team into playoff contention, but youth and inexperience will take it's toll by December WHAT TO WATCH FOR Can Harper come in and be effective enough to offset Jones' potential season long suspension.

JAX 8-8 Just like with the other two FLA teams a lack of a QB will be the killer. A stud defense and coaching can not overcome weak QB's. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Jones-Drew will carry over his momentum and rush for 1600 yards.

HOU 8-8 Surprise turn around. Young, and getting more talented. They picked up Schaub. Should be interesting to see if he can slove the QB issues. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Williams will have a breakthrough season and Demarco Ryans will be a candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the year.

AFC NORTH

CIN 11-5 They will come back to form. Carson Palmer has emerged as the clear cut leader and voice olf reason for this team. They will win the tie breaker with BAL. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Palmer to emerge as the best QB in the AFC in the season. Also can David Pollack return from his horrific injury?

BAL 11-5 Will not repeat as AFC North champs. Although the D is still very potent it is aging and showed signs of slowing down last year. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Will Steve McNair be able to lead this team like last year? I think so but his tank is really starting to run low.

CLE 5-11 Modest signs of progression. The O line is slowly getting better. Also they have a terrific WR TE combo and a big bruiser in at RB. Again no real QB, but if Quinn is there at three it would be hard to pass on him. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Jammal Lewis will be effective for the Browns gaining just over 1,000 yards.

PIT 3-13 The downward spiral continues. It becomes apparent Big Ben was only successful in the right kind of Offense. Willie Parker will have less than 1,200 yards. Memebers of the Steelers are becoming disgruntled and want out it seems. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Can Tomlin lead this team to be successful? Will his slow progression from a 3-4 to Tampa 2 lead to success or failure?

AFC West

SAN 11-5 No way is firing Schotenheimer for Turner a step in the right direction. Especially when you keep A.J. Smith. Still they make the playoffs and have the games best O player and D player. Not Enough. WHAT TO WATCH FOR LT MVP.

DEN 10-6 A lights out Defense that continues to improve. Very underated team and dangerous. Jay Cutler is the real deal and will lead this team on offense. Sadly they have a lot of motivation due to the loss of two players and last years heartbreaking loss. They will be there this year. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Jay Cutler will make the Pro Bowl. Hopefully Dre Bly will be able to make up the loss of Williams.

K.C. 7-9 Just too many holes on Offense. The defense is starting to shore up, but the pressure could be too much for Huard. Gonzales and Kennison are the only players who can catch the ball. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Huard to be largly ineffective but LJ will rush for 1,500 yards.

OAK 4-12 A very inderated Defense. A lot of holes on offense. If they can unload Randy Moss at least the atmosphere will clear. Still they are a rebuildeing team. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Oakland will be in the top 10 for D at the end of the season.

NFC EAST
PHL 10-6 Still a very dangerous team. Westbrook is possibly the most underrated RB in the NFL. They have one of the best coner tandems in the NFL also. A very solid front 7 on defense. WHAT TO WATCH FOR How will McNabb rebound from his knee injury. If he plays well PHL will be fine.

DAL 8-8 No way is Wade Philips the answer for T.O. He is such a clown that he has the potential to destroy teams. He needs a strong coach who will stand up to him. I can't stand DAL but I felt terrible for Tony Romo at the end of the SEA game. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Ware and Spears are tow of the best young defensive players in the NFL. I think they will play even better this year, but until T.O. goes this team won't go anywhere.

WAS 8-8 Still can't get over the hump. They should improve. The talent is there but they can't gel. Can Jason Campbell lead this team to the playoffs? It's possible but improbable. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Betts and Portis tandem has the potential to be unstoppable. Look for the Skins to run way more than pass.

NYG 5-11 They will suffer from Dennis Greenitis. Coughlin can't connect with his players and they don't want to play for him it seems. Tiki retired because of him. Plus they have the most overrated QB in the NFL. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Fans calling for Eli to go and Brandon Jacobs to rush for 1,200 yards.

NFC SOUTH

N.O. 13-3 Lesson learned from last year this team is for real and will be in the Superbowl. Bush, McCalister, Brees will be a force to deal with. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Colsten to add on to his superb rookie year. This kid is going to be the next Boldin. Bush will be the no. 1 back.

CAR 9-7 Just don't think Delhome is all that great. He's a big whiner. Also the D didn't live up to it's potential last year. Thanks to a weak NFC South compared to years past they go 9-7. WHAT TO WATCH FOR People starting to talk about John Fox going after CAR failes to make the playoffs again. Also Delhome might not be the starter in '08.

T.B. 6-10 Who's the QB? A bad Oline doesn't help either. They got Petigout but is he good enough. The potential is there especially if they get CJ. The D is also getting older. Still re-builing. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Could be the other Barber's last year.

ATL 5-11 Michael Vick is a terrific athelete and terribly overrated at QB. Dunn is getting older but Norwood is a up and coming stud. They have an above average D. If they get Landry watch out. WR is the big weakness. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Vick again rushes for 1,000 yards but has more INT than TD's.

NFC NORTH

CHI 11-5 A weak division helps them with a winning record. They are weak at RB and QB. Not good. The D will carry this team again. But this year marks the downward spiral for the Bears. The Bears are like the .com stocks. Greatly inflated and ready to pop. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Cedric Benson will rush for under 1,000 yards. The Bears let the worng guy go.

DET 8-8 They will be vastly improved. They are like Arizona with great talent, bad FO. Kitna had a solid year and Williams and Furrey make a solid WR combo. A questionable D though will leave them high and dry. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Can Kevin Jones come back from injury and make a big impact. I think so.

MIN 7-9 A great running D. A suspect passing D. Underachieving WR and a suspect QB. Should be intresting but they are still a year or two away from contending in a weak NFC North. WHAT TO WATCH FOR This is pretty much Chad Greenway's rookie season. It's like the Vikes will have two first round rookies this year should be interesting to watch.

G.B. 6-10 Farve should have retired at least two years ago. A solid D led by Al Harris and A.J. Hawk. An average O led by an aging overrated QB who often forces throws into double and triple coverage spells bad news. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Same as every year is this Farve's last year?

NFC West

ARZ 9-7 A team on the rise. Good coaching and an average D and explosive offense. Could be the most exciting offense in the NFL led by and offesive genius. The O-line and front seven could hold the team back though, WHAT TO WATCH FOR Three Pro Bowl Starters? Leinart, Fitz, Boldin????

SEA 9-7 They showed signs of weakness last year. Most due to injuries but still. They had a good FA, but they have been the team to beat in this divison the last few years and teams are gunning for them. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Is Alexander, and Hasselbeck slowing down? I hope so......

SF 8-8 Can you imagine this team with Leinart??? Holy Crap! An up and coming team and them and AZ should be forces in the NFC West for years to come. A talented solid young O and D. They should be good. Great CB's in Harris and Clements. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Clements vs. Boldin and Holt, and Branch should be fun!

STL 6-10 Just because they are in a tough divison. Excellent RB, but an aging QB and RB. Also have a solid D but they are aging as well. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Steven Jackson will lead this divison in rushing with 1600 yards.

Thanks for the write up.

Only thing I really found a problem with was how nice you were to the AFC South. I really doubt that the worst team in the Conference will finish 8-8. In case you have forgotten, Houston still has argueably the worst O-line in football, a worn down rb and an inexperienced qb. Add that to the fact that they have a weak d-line that has very little pass rush to hide their poor secondary and they have another 3-5 win season infront of them IMO.

Thanks yeah I see what you're saying, but TEN is going to be really good. I also think HOU is a team on the rise. They were 6-10 last year, I think just with the addition of Schaub they should win two.

Awww man. You wrote this up? I thought this was a national write up...

But i actually agree with most of what you say. I would think you are forgetting to include one surprise team that rises from the depths to division winner. You picked mostly favorites (cept for Arizona). And i don't see Pitt going 3-13 either.

But not to be overly negative. Good write up....

Thanks AZ sorry to disappoint you ;)

No disappointment bud. I admire you writing this up before the draft as a lot can change. I'm going to wait until after the draft until pick my surprise team. I'm just glad i have something Cardinal related to read until April 28th.....

Really nice write, CtC! Way more initiative than I have...

But you just know I (and others) have to nit-pick it! :p

One peeve I have with any season predictions is that often the prognosticator neglects that there have to be and equal amounts of wins vs. losses - 256 each. Your picks tally 261-251, so you need 5 less wins, 5 more losses overall.

You designated Pittsburgh as the worst team in the league next year at 3-13. While I agree with you comments regarding them, I think they will win more than 3 games, and they will definitely not be the worst of the entire league.

Chicago won't win 11.

I would be very surprise to see both Boldin and Fitz both make Pro-Bowl, whichever one stays healty the entire season will be there though!

Again, really solid job overall!

If we actually only pass on 42% of our offensive plays and either Boldin or Fitz goes down with injury, something's going to go terribly wrong.

SF 8-8 Can you imagine this team with a decent receiver??? Holy Crap! An up and coming team and them and AZ should be forces in the NFC West for years to come. A talented solid young O and D. They should be good. Great CB's in Harris and Clements. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Clements vs. Boldin and Holt, and Branch should be fun!

Fixed!:D
