If they move Adrian Wilson to Corner (which I wouldn't mind seeing) who is going to play safety this season? I just can't imagine we will draft Sean Taylor with the third pick and then doesn't that leave us one safety short?

With Williams entering the draft, I don't see the Cards taking Taylor anymore I see the draft shaping up like this, San Diego gets Manning,Oak takes Williams or Fitz, we get who Oak doesn't take. I guess we should look at which safetys are Free Agents this season

If they move Adrian Wilson to CB we are in big trouble if they are looking for him to fill the void. He just doesnt have the fluid body movements you need to be an affective CB. He is to stiff in the hips!

Oh. Dang! I forgot about the SS spot!

I assumed Lenny meant that the Cards would have Taylor and Dex.

I'm afraid this is the truth Shane. I mean, if he is a liability in coverage at S, how will he be better at CB? I can think of corners who moved to safety and did well, but I'll be danged if I can think of even one example of the reverse situation.

Can anybody think of an example of someone moving from S to CB and actually being good after being a not very good S?

He'll have less to think about when playing man coverage. He has to think:

Cover the man in front of me. Don't let him get away.

Well, that is what a safety or LB does in man coverage too. Except they get TE's and 3rd wideouts, now he'll be matched up with number 2 WRs.

Ty Law. Safety at Michigan, CB in New England.

Carnell Lake moved from Safety to being a good CB

However, now he will be able to use his size to bump-and-run with the WR's as he will be playing on the line of scrimmage. Furtheremore, he will be able to play the run more, as he would be closer to the LOS especially if he is on a #3 WR of superstar TE.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Adrian Wilson play corner for us his rookie year. Wasn't he even a corner in college?

True. Man, Michigan must've had some great corners when he was there.

Adrian Wilson is no Ty Law or Carnell Lake for that matter. So in the 30 year era of Super Bowl people can only think of two. That still pretty much proves your point Aj.

Just look at wilson on the field. He is and will be nothing but a liability at CB. Heck he already is one at S!

I think the norm though is for more CBs to move to S than the other way around. Those S who play CB well are just special players. Wilson could be good but I doubt anyone considers him a special player.

BTW...I think moving Wilson to CB is a recipe for continued disaster to this defense. Moving him simply to draft Taylor would only make it a more ridiculous idea. JMHO.

But that is usually because their physicals skills have degraded.

I have heard ths issue with Wilson is problem with coverage at S, which is typcialy simpiler at CB. While the physical speed required is higher at CB.

Also we are real thin at CB

Safety is more cerebral and playing in space.

Corner is either man "stick to this one guy like glue" or zone "protect this patch of dirt"

He should be athletic enough to make the switch. Like Nidan said, typically a corner moves to safety because of a lack of athleticism/speed.

What?
Why is A. Wilson being pidgeon holed as stupid or un-athletic?

Maybe his skills are being better exploited by a better coaching staff.

Maybe the D is going to play more to his strengths than they did with him at Safety.

Who the hell knows at this point.

I'm willing to give him a shot at CB. I liked what he did last year. He tried to over achieve but at least he was trying.

He'll be a good physical matchup against all the big recievers coming in to the league lately.

They will move him back to S UNLESS they draft Taylor.

The point I was trying to make is that the switch is normal the other way...regardless of the reason. Most S aren't capable of playing CB every down...or put different, they are simply a better fit at S. Wilson hasn't been challenged cerebrally yet but I think he will and once he understands the actaul preparation that goes into the S position, he will suddenly develop into the S many of us think he can.

Wilson is a better fit at S IMO. Green suggesting he will move to CB is a smokescreen.
