If Von Miller is gone by pick #5, my bet is on Marcel Dareus.

Dareus wouldn't be the sexy pick like a Newton or even Peterson, but he would fit the prototype 3-4 end that a team like the Steelers or Ravens would look for. When I watch Dareus, I see a slightly smaller, faster version of Haloti Nauta.

The Cards would have to deal with a logjam on the defensive line, but my guess is Ray Horton has been pulling those dreads out watching the run defense of our defensive linemen. Much of the blame in the run game goes to the linebackers, but much also goes to our defensive linemen especially to our defensive ends, Dockett and Campbell.

In evaluating Dareus, forget about 2010. He was hampered by leg issues all year and basically played at about 60% most of the year and still held his own in the run game. If you want to see the real Marcel Dareus, go back and look at games from the championship season of 2009. He was the most dominant lineman on a star studded defense for Alabama.

318 pounds and ran a 4.95 40. Not bad.

I still think Miller is the guy at #5 if he is there, but Dareus would be my choice if Miller is gone. Todd McShay said that Dareus will be a real player for the #1 overall selection along with DeQuan Bowers.

I would rate Blane Gabbert ahead of Dareus due to need, but if Von Miller, Patrick Peterson and Blane Gabbert are gone, I would not hate the Cards drafting Marcel Dareus. he will be a special player in the NFL.

I get wanting to pick BPA, but with a team that has these kinds of needs, picking a comparable player at a needed position should take priority. I don't think Dareus or Fairley are Ndumakong Suh type talents, and if they're not, we shouldn't be trying to find replacements for Dockett, Williams, or Campbell.

Sadly, Bowers, Fairley, and Dareus don't fit into our plans.

Dareus brings great value to our team as he could rotate across all 3 line positions. That was if Campbell prices himself out, or if we have an injury, then we have a sold player to move into the open spot. We may not have the luxury of taking Dareus over Von Miller, Patrick Peterson or Blane Gabbert, but if they are all gone, he would be a solid choice.
