If we took the top five players under Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, T-Mac.....

could we win it all? I guess we would maybe be able to but I think it might be close... That's how good Shaq and Duncan are... now people are saying that we should let our draft pics develop and see what we get with the other pics but look at Detroit, they still aren't close to the best team and look at the pics they got....

For argument's sake, I'll say Marbury or Kidd, Iverson, Pierce, Nowitzki, and J O'Neil.

Would that team be good enough to roll through the playoffs? Probably not.

On the other hand, the Kings don't have a top-5 player, and they might not have a top-10 player, but I would consider them a serious threat to win the championship.

Does that help? :p

That's not a team. Iverson and Pierce are both strictly SG. Substitute Yao for Iverson, and this team has a good chance.

I'll take Jason Kidd, Ray Allen, Andrei Kirilenko, Jermaine O'Neal, and Ben Wallace.

Can't argue with Yao or Pierce. Don't really like Nowitzki, though. Defense wins championships.

I still wouldn't bet against the Lakers or Spurs, that's kind of my point...some of you seem to think that we can win a championship by getting very lucky in the draft and get players that are better than the best players in the league right now even though all of the other teams get to pick players too others think that Stoudemire is going to be the best player in the league....Now what really are the odds of that happening? Not very good I would think.

Piece of cake - I'd pick Rick Adelman as the coach and let him assemble the team. Or Rick Carlisle, Jerry Sloan, Larry Brown etc. Probably well over half the coaches around the league could win it all with a team they put together out of that large of pool of talent. The ones that would flub it would likely be the ones that got greedy and picked too many stars instead of a team that fit together.

I think that you are forgetting that by the time Amare hits his prime O'neal will be out of the league or running out of Gas. So will Tim Duncan. I don't see why he couldn't be the best big man in basketball in a couple of years. I am sure that Portland didn't think that Jermain O'neal was going to be as good as he is or they wouldn't have given up on him. Do we want to give up on Amare yet?

Maybe he wasn't saying it in that post but I have read in A LOT of posts on this board that Amare will never lead this team to a championship. I think that is ridiculous. Did anyone know that Kobe was going to be as good as he is now, or Jermain O'neal, or TMac or Kevin Garnett? It was all speculation when they were drafted, and Amare had a better rookie year then all of them. How can Phoenix fans make comments that he will never be a franchise player? The line of thinking is not logical to me.

No, Amare BY HIMSELF will not get us a championship.

i don't think anyone wants to rid ourselves of amare, nor do many think he doesn't possess the potential to be a franchise player.

my starting 5 would win it all i think:

kidd
ray allen
peja
ben wallace (at pf)
yao

you have a blend of distributor, shooters, athletes, offensive firepower, defensive presence and post play.

Here would be my team, mixed with current Suns players...

PG- Barbosa
SG- Tmac
SF- Marion
PF- Amare
C- B. Wallace

That is a good team, even better then the whole West.
