If you were an NFL GM would you lurk these boards? When you really think about it, just by reading these threads for an hour you can get a sample size of the fans preference for the draft.

Also, i think its safe to say that the people on this board know more about the team and its needs than any talking head out there. Outside of the front office, the arguement could be made that our opinions are the most valid.

In general, a GM will already be thinking along the same lines as an educated fan anyways. We both know Fisher is the ideal guy to fall to us. If not Fisher, Warmack is a heck of a consolation prize. If Im a GM, I dont want to waste my time reading about someone saying Lane Johnson might be the best LT in this draft.

I could not respect an organization that would run it's operations based on message board chatter.

I do think someone involved with the Cardinals public relations office would be wise to keep a pulse on fans by reading this board as sort of barometer. There are issues like security that arise on this forum that the FO should be aware. Although, there are some very knowledgeable football fans on this site I doubt the FO cares about our opinion on who to draft. I certainly do not want the Cardinals FO taking advice from talking heads either.

Haha im surprised how quick you guys are to de-value your own opinions.

Theres probably 50 people on the staff that pay more attention to the Cards than the people on this board do. You can tell by almost every article your read how uneducated the general public is on the Cards.

GM of a major sports team is one of those jobs that a good percentage of your customer base thinks that they can do your job better than you can.

Not me personally, but in 2013 I'd have someone on my staff whose job it was to monitor the social media to see what was going on. Sort of like the old clipping services that would gather newspaper articles of interest to those that hired them.

I know the local reporters have to be reading the message boards. There are just too many columns, blogs, etc. that copy things that were being discussed here days or weeks earlier for it to be a coincidence.

The GMs job isn't the make fans happy. Now, if I was an owner I'd lurk fan sites or hire someone to do it for me.

Translation of your question: "Do you think the teams eavesdrop on this board to avail themselves of our brilliant wisdom?"

Answer:"No."

Follow up: Should they or do they eavesdrop on this board to keep their finger on the pulse of their public?

Answer: "Hell, yes." (It's good marketing).

There is no reason for him to come here when he can get all he needs to know off twitter.

I wouldn't run it BASED on message boards. But I'd check em out if I was a GM. If not for anything but motivation from getting bashed all the time from people that don't know a thing about football

Why would you? If your a GM you have paid professionals with all the tape and tools at their disposal to comb over the athletes and get a 'professional assessment' who the F cares what a bunch of fans THINK they know.

I laugh all the time at all the posters who talk like they should have been a Pro Scout cause they watch a couple college games.

why would a GM be fired for checking message boards? I don't really see it as much different than checking out twitter or reading opinion-based articles and blogs...

I think the assumtion is that he would implement things he found via browsing the boards...which would in turn make the team bad and be bad decisions....which would in turn get him fired.

I guess I just don't see the negative side to hearing more opinions. Somebody may point somethingn out that you never thought of that would work (obviously, you'd have to do your own research on the topic). It never hurts to hear more opinions IMO

You must hold the 'Board Guru's" in high regard haha. Besides to find ANYTHING of value you have to wade through tons of whiners, know it alls, and The Cardinals are getting my money anymore posts. At a point it becomes not worth the time even if you found a good nugget every now and then. I am sure the peoples who's job it is to Know Football, are leaps and bounds ahead of the 'Board Guru's"...at least they better be.

I am not sure it would be worth spending a lot of time on message boards. Keim's time is very valuable, I would think it would be better spent soliciting the opinion of other NFL colleagues.

While I do think there are some great ideas here on the board, sometimes you have to read through some pretty silly, unrealistic ones on the way (my ideas often fall into this category).

What on earth are you talking about?

What the heck is a board guru?

LOL

EDIT: OH! I get it now. Yeah, I agree with that. It would take hours for a NFL team to find something on a message board that they don't already know themselves.

well I wouldn't replace my scouts' opinions with the board's, but as I said, I just don't see a negative to hearing more opinions. If it's "boo hoo, they're not getting my money anymore", don't open the thread

You whine more about other posters than anyone who posts here does about anything else. I'll guarantee you that there are regulars here who know far more about the Arizona Cardinals than the GM of the Jacksonville Jaguars or Carolina Panthers. So why not have an employee who tracks message boards for information on players of other teams?

Just because I'm not a mechanic doesn't mean I don't know anything about cars. To think that unless someone has a job with a football team they don't know anything about the sport is either ignorant or incredibly naive. Especially with all the access to information fans have today.

I agree with Brandon, never hurts to view other opinions. I just cant think of anyones opinion thats really valuable other than that of the FO. None of the analysts have a clue about the Cards. There is no way they can be experts on 32 teams, let alone the Cards who nobody cares about.
For instance i read a post on this board today where somebody pointed out that yes our biggest o-line weakness is guard but he also pointed out that versatility is very important and tackles can be moved to guard but not necessarily vice-versa. Thats a point that was well said and can be a valued arguement.

The quack just made my point. A fan that has access to the internet knows more about football then someone who has made a career of the game. I guess NFL front offices should just go out and hire their biggest fans...we know more than they do anyways. I mean all we need is the internet right?

THATS why they wouldnt browse a forum.
