Soph may make NBA decision this weekend

Hassan Adams goes up for a slam over Eric Katz during last night's Lame for a Game contest.
Calling it one of his most difficult decisions, University of Arizona sophomore Andre Iguodala said he will likely wait until Monday to decide whether he will declare himself eligible for the NBA draft.
"It's still 50-50. I have no clue," he said after the UA men's and women's combined team beat the Wildchairs 85-72 in an exhibition game at McKale Center last night. "It's a tough decision. I talked it over with my parents over the weekend. It's just tough.

"Either way, I think I'll make the right choice. I need to make a decision on what will make me the happiest. I'm not leaning any way."

Experts have Iguodala, a 6-foot-6 forward, being taken somewhere in the middle of the first round. If he leaves, his last act as a UA basketball player came when he hit a half-court shot at the buzzer in last night's charity game in front of an estimated 5,000 fans.

Iguodala said he plans to sit down with UA coach Lute Olson in the next day or so - if time permits - to let him know his plans. In an earlier interview, Olson said he hoped Iguodala would make a final decision by Sunday or soon after. It looks as if Iguodala will hold to that schedule.

"He will be the first one I tell," said Iguodala, who will be out of town the next couple of days.

Igoudala averaged 12.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during his sophomore season.

Great Picture.

Iguodala said goodbye to the fans after his regular-season last home game. My guess is that it would take something drastic to make him reconsider at this point...

If he is smart he will hold off on hiring an agent IMO. He may decide he wants to go back to school even if he does declare.

Man..!

The draft workouts and draft can't come early enough.

Iggy would be a pretty safe and good pick for this team. In case we don't get Kobe we have already solidified our 1,2,3 spots with the draft and in case we do sign Kobe it might be a little redundant but we would have a nice 6th man who could probably backup 3 positions as the first guy off the bench.

I'm not sure anybody after Okafor is a "safe" pick. Iggy is no worse than the other guys being considered, but hardly someone to get excited about.

Iguodala, a 6-foot-6, 207-pound sophomore forward from Springfield, Ill., averaged 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 30 games this season. He shot 45.0 percent from the floor (136-of-302), including 31.5 percent from three-point range (23-of-73), and 78.8 percent (93-of-118 ) from the free throw line.

Iguodala, who collected a school record three triple-doubles this season, became the first UA player in history to lead the team in rebounds (253), assists (147) and steals (48 ) in the same season. He also joins California's Jason Kidd as the only players in Pac-10 history to record three or more three or more triple doubles in a single season. He finished the season as the only Pac-10 player to be ranked in the top 20 in scoring and rebounding and the top 10 in assists, steals and assist:turnover ratio (1.77).

Impressive

Pretty funny, look who is on the first and who is on the second picture.

Now if you knew that boy never grew you could draw some conclusions concerning player heights.
That buy met quite some players before they went pro. Amare, Iguodala, Curry, Chandler, Livingston......

It is really hard to get an objective view of Iggy. U of A fans have been pushing him so hard that I take most opinions in favor of him with a grain of salt, but I want to keep an open mind and not just be an "Anti U of A".

The main issue will be if the Suns intend to sign a free agent guard. If they do and still plan on signing Vujanic, that would give them six guards including Eisley. Adding a seventh guard seems doubtful.

On the other hand, if the Suns are going to put their money into a center (unlikely but no out of the question), then drafting a guard might make sense. Since I can't see the Suns taking a PG, Iggy may be under consideration.

Come on, even Chaplin isn't that down on him. :p

Seriously, this draft will be driven by how well the Euro big men do at the Chicago combine and in their tryouts. There are as many as five seven footers being considered potential lottery picks, yet it is not certain how many will even be in the draft. If all are available and all of them go early, Iggy could fall to very late in the lottery or middle round. Otherwise, #5-#7 is where most mock drafts list him.

:D

Actually, I have no doubt that he'll be a lottery pick. I just don't believe he deserves to be a lottery pick. That's all.

Arizona Daily Star: Iguodala opts for NBA draft

I pulled this from the article. The rest is about the Cats next season.

Arizona Daily Star: Iguodala opts for NBA draft

Iguodala opts for NBA draft

Kelly Presnell / Arizona Daily Star file
Andre Iguodala is projected as a first-round pick in the June 24 NBA draft and could even go in the top 10.

Iguodala is projected as a near-certain first-round pick in the June 24 draft at Madison Square Garden in New York, with a chance to move into the top 10.

Chris Monter of the Minnesota-based Monter Draft News, said he has rated Iguodala the No. 1 shooting guard prospect in this year's draft, and expects he will go at least in the middle of the first round.

"There are questions about his outside shot, but he's a good all-around player," Monter said. "He's a good passer, defender and he has that long, athletic body that's all the rage right now."

NBA officials cannot comment on Iguodala, or any other underclassmen, until June 10. But there is little doubt Iguodala could move into the lottery by playing well in individual workouts with NBA teams this spring.

It is unclear if Iguodala will immediately withdraw from school, but he will be expected to prepare for several workouts this spring.

"What everybody's told me is that he's a sure-fire first-rounder," Rosborough said. "He can go late in the lottery on down, but it depends on the individual workouts. They know he can defend and rebound, and he has that unselfish potential. His question marks are his shooting and ability to penetrate and get the shot off."

Iguodala shot 45.0 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from three-point range, but slumped to 36.4 overall and 25.0 from three-point range over the Wildcats' final eight games of the regular season and two Pac-10 tournament games.

Iguodala reminds me of Joe Johnson. Maybe it is just the size but they seem like similar players. I don't think Iguodala is a need player for the Suns.

Joe Johnson had much better credentials as an offensive player in colege. Iggy is mostly a defensive specialist.

Reggie Geary was about 6'1", and Iguodala is not a specialist. He can do everything an NBA team would want, except shoot.

Not really. He was a better shooter.

The real difference between the two of them is that JJ is 2-3 inches taller and about 30 pounds larger. Iguodala is a better athlete.
