Cards only:

Round 1:Sean Taylor,backup pick- Ben

Round 2:Maurice Clarett,i'm sure the NFL won't want him to be a 1st rounder. So we'll take him to start round 2.Backup pick-Daunta Robinson

Round 3:Shaun Phillips-DE Purdue.Great pass rusher with alot of speed which is what the Cards defense needs.

Round 3 comp:Jerrico Cotchery,WR NC State. We definitely need some WR help and he was very productive in college.

Round 4:Antonio Hall,OT Kentucky. He may be gone by now but he was a 4 year starter at UK and was a highly rated prospect coming ot of high school.

Round 4 comp-If we don't take Ben,Casey Clausen,QB Tennesee. I personally think he stinks but he does have some talent and would be a good chance here.

Round 5:Shawntee Spencer,CB Pittsburgh

Round 6:Alex Stepanovich,C THE Ohio state university.Grooming Kendall's repalcement.

Round 7:Derek Abney-KR Kentucky.We need a PR.

And he's SO draft-eligible. I always say: If you're going to waste a draft pick, make sure it's a high one.

Don't think Stepanovich will be there at 6....I'd like to take him earlier.

Nothing like a slow defensive end in the third round. This is what the War Room says about Thomas Burke...err Shaun Phillips:

Player evaluation:
Shaun Phillips
War Room analysis
Strengths: Has great production as an upfield player. Shows anticipation of the snap and plays with leverage. Gets a jump off the ball and shows initial quickness. Is a relentless pass rusher with solid upper-body power. Shows good moves and relentless approach when rushing the passer. Is a better athlete than his 40 time indicates. Does a nice job of finding the ball, changing directions and chasing in the running game. Can be a powerful tackler who will force fumbles.

Weaknesses: Lacks NFL measurables. Does not have the size to play defensive end in the NFL. Is a terrific upfield player in college, but has marginal speed as an NFL edge rusher. Will not turn the corner in the NFL as he does in college. Has limited experience dropping in coverage and doesn't have the speed to move to linebacker in the NFL. Lacks the size, bulk and base to hold up at the line of scrimmage vs. the run. Might never be more than a situational edge rusher and special teams player.

Bottom line: Phillips is underrated on the college level and is similar to former Boilermaker Akin Ayodele (Jaguars). Phillips is a four-year starter who accumulated 19 sacks in his first three seasons, playing both left and right end. But he is unlikely to be as productive in the NFL. Phillips has the size of a linebacker but the speed of a defensive tackle. He also lacks the speed of a pass rush specialist, and he likely will slip to the draft's final rounds.

Speaking of Brown....James Brown that is....if anyone can find the arraignment picture that goes with this article it is hysterical.

James Brown arrested on domestic charge

Associated Press

Wednesday, January 28, 2004

AIKEN, S.C. -- Soul singer James Brown was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly pushed his wife to the floor during an argument, authorities said.

Brown, 70, was charged with criminal domestic violence and was to remain jailed until a bond hearing Thursday morning, Aiken County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Michael Frank said.

Investigators say Brown shoved his wife during an argument at the couple's home in Beech Island, 70 miles southwest of Columbia.

Tomi Rae Brown, 33, had scratches and bruises to her right arm and hip and was taken to a hospital, Frank said.

Exactly what I thought. And, I don't think there would be much grooming. I'd plug him into the lineup early and move Kendall.

Didn't Terrell Suggs not have enough speed either. All i know is that i saw him(Phillips) play and he was a very good pass rusher.

It looks like someone took the Saddaam picture and the Nick Nolte mug shot and photoshopped them together.

Shaun Phillips plays much faster than his speed indicates. Much like Terrell Suggs, and much like his predecessor Rosevelt Colvin. He doesn't take control of games the way Colvin used to but he's a playmaker and should be looked at sometime on the second day (I believe Colvin was a 5th round pick)

Funny, the Pats didn't really need to spend all the cash on Colvin in the offseason after all.

If we draft a Center (and we would be wise to do so), I think you go for Jake Grove. It's unlikely he lasts through the 2nd round however so something would have to happen with us trading down in the 1st round and getting another pick in the 2nd. Or we can wait until next year and draft Wilkerson from LSU with our #1 pick (which I hope will be in and around #25 overall)
