Even though he's with the division rival Dodgers, I'm happy for the season Luis Gonzalez is having as their everyday #5 hitter in the lineup, batting behind Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent.

The leadership and performance he brought to the Diamondbacks will never be forgotten. And the positive and professional way he exited.

Despite D'backs executive Ken Kendricks taking the low road and smearing Gonzo's name, rather than having the guts to tell him and the Press that the D'backs would be rebuilding and would not have him back.

Gonzo's .292 batting average is leading the Dodgers. And he's right up there with the team leaders in other categories.

His 9 HR are one behind Jeff Kent's leading 10. He's tied for third in RBI's with Jeff Kent and 2 behind Garciaparra. Martin is leading. And his 38 runs scored is 3rd, just 3 behind Kent's and Pierre's 41.

He will always be Mr. Diamondback. I hope he chooses to return to the organization after he retires. And I hope Ken Kendricks disappears into the sunset.

Nobody smeared anything. Kendrick said he didn't think Gonzo took steroids, but he decided to get pissy about it and make a big deal out of nothing.

As far as not telling him and the media that he wasn't coming back, I'm pretty sure everyone knew he wasn't going to be a Dback next year, and I'd bet dollars to donuts (ha, never used that phrase before, cool) that they told Luis that would be the case. Also, what do you think the giant ceremony on the last day of the season was for? If that isn't taking the high road then I don't know what is, especially for a guy who spent his last few seasons here bitching and moaning about young guys taking his spot in the lineup for a game, or about ownership in general.

I respect your opinion, green machine. But you can't dampen my respect for Gonzo, appreciation for what he did here in Phoenix, and feeling good about the season he's having.

:stupid:

Agreed to this and your first post. Gonzo is missed. I would Replace Gonzo with Quenton at this point in a heart beat. For this season at least.

That's cool, and I don't mean to really attack you or your opinion.

I just got sick of Gonzo being labeled a as a leader and such when at least in his last year or so here he was anything but.

Doesn't mean I didn't appreciate what he did for the team, but I'm a team over player guy so when someone wrongs the team in some way or bad mouths them when I don't feel it is necessary then I lose a lot of respect and/or liking for the player.

Gonzo did great things, but we need to move forward. He wasn't part of the long-term plan. Quinten is having a poor year so far, but he can only get better, sophomore slump, and CY is heating up! I think it's important to get those young guys experience! We have a reputation of giving up on young talent in favor of veteran players who can produce now... we gave these guys some time and look what we have now! 1st Place in the NL!!!!

Best record in the NL. That's great.

If we could capture the essence of the winning streaks . . . and overcome the losing streaks that follow . . . it could really be a surprising year.

We seem to be a better fielding team with Chad Tracy at 1B and Mark Reynolds at 3B, than with Tracy at 3B and Jackson at 1B.

Now that Reynolds is hitting again, maybe Conor Jackson could be used in a useful trade.

Where is it written that young Conor Jackson gets the nod over young Mark Reynolds? They say that Reynolds shows tremendous power potential in batting practice.

Yes, it's batting practice, but the better you do there, the better potential for games.

That's what I've been saying. Tracy had a great game today and even had the defensive play of the game that was on the jumbotron :)

I have to look up the numbers, but Tracy seems to be heating up! He's driving the ball out of the yard alot lately too! Is it 3 or 4 homers is the last two weeks? Seems like it!

4 homers since he got back. I do think his avg. dropped from before the injury but it's on it's way up.

I wish someone would have told Jack Cust and Alex Cabrera this.

Those two guys were monsters during batting practice, routinely putting them in the upper deck. When the chips were on the table though, neither one of them amounted to much.

If the Diamondbacks trade Jackson to give a full-time gig to Reynolds, they're making a horrendous mistake, one that will come back to bite them badly.

With absolutely no disrespect intended to you here BC, I disagree on that standpoint.

As for the Gonzo bit, I do wish him well and I am happy for him. Yet, at the end of the day, letting him go was the best move for both parties. I think he was treated very fairly towards the end, given a very nice, proper and fitting farewell.

You seem to not have any grasp of what actually happened, rather some alternate reality

My perception as a D'backs fan.

What's yours?

Well I actually read Kendrick's comments and he didn't say anything about Gonzo taking steroids. He was actually attempting to defend him, rather poorly but defend him none the less. So I don't know if you're just making things up or are lacking in comprehention
