I was very surprised the Mavs lost tonight. I thought once they pulled within 5 that they would catch up and win it in the end. The Bulls did not impress me at all. They beat the team with the best record in the league, but they just looked terrible. A fluke game for sure (thanks to terrible shooting by the Mavs).

The Mavs are a great team. No bashing on my part.

The bulls D really is insane, there are things in the stats that you cannot see but when you watch the bulls play you see it.

The bulls passed up so many open shots, had so many horrible possessions that they themselves botched up, and were just plain sloppy on some plays and still pulled out the win and made the mavs shoot horrible.

This was the only game I figured Mavs had a chance to lose. Looking at next five games for Mavs mostly against losing teams, should be piece of cake. I'm glad they lost, we need to make sure we keep winning...

Bulls' offensive decision making was mediocre but they have experienced defenders in Ben and PJ. And they got offensive rebounds via Deng at crunch time.

Dallas' offense heavily rely on one-on-one skills, they are thus vulnerable to tight defense, witnessed both in last year's finals and in this game.

If we can acquire Nazr Muhammed for Banks, we should have even better chance to beat Mavs in a 7-game series.

Reggie Miller said it best when he said that if P.J. Brown is the Bulls go to player then they are in trouble.

I'd love to Nazr on the Suns, but I don't think he'd be particularly helpful in a series with Dallas. Against Utah, SA, and Houston for sure, but Dallas? Who are you wanting Nazr to guard? You really think its super important to lock down Dampier?

I agree w/ your point about Dallas relying heavily on one-on-one skills, in fact I think its their downfall. If Dirk has an off night, its hard for them to recover from that. Every team has a superstar they lean on, including the Suns with Nash, but I feel like if one or two Mavs have an off night, it hurts than more than the same situation would hurt the Suns.

The Bulls offense isn't very good and most of their scoring is from their perimeter players, but their defense is what makes them win games. We struggled against the Bulls and they're one of the few teams to hold us under 100 pts this season. If it wasn't for the last second 3ptr by LB then we would've lost to them too. I'm glad Dallas lost (no 3rd 10 game win streak yet and we're #1 in the standings), but I don't think there's any shame in losing to the Bulls. It's not like they lost to the Bobcats or Hornets or some other really bad team like the Spurs, Lakers & Jazz have recently.

3 plays

a missed layup by LB against the Jazz
a last second shot against the Wizz.
Dirks game winner

and we're on a 33 game win streak. A loss is still just that, but its still amazing to see how close we really are.

At least the Mavericks didn't lose to an elite team...

:biglaugh: This whole elite thing cracks me up. We went 3-1 vs the Lakers during the regular season last year, yet they took us to 7 in the playoffs. Dallas crushed the Heat during the regular season - we know how that ended up. There is a reason that only two teams (other than the Suns) and their fans mention the Suns' record vs "elite" teams - they worry about it. Let them worry. Suns fans can worry all they want as well. Does beating the Spurs and Mavs the next time they play guarantee playoff success should they meet? Absolutely not. The regular season does not matter except for seeding. And how do you get the best record? You beat all the teams you should beat, and then let the chips fall where they may in hard-fought games against the "elite".

Edit: This mini-rant wasn't against you eric. In fact, I think that you are saying the same thing.

Our defensive problem is not solely one-on-one cover but the lack of rebounding and of intimidation against the quick penetration of Mavs perimeter players, particularly after switchings and doublings. Nazr would help on both areas.

I think Chicago showed a minor weakness with your roster last night. There wasn't a lot Short Stack could do in terms of matchups and maybe going with a small lineup or two. If you're not getting rebounds, you better put some players on the floor who can shoot a higher percentage.

OTOH, I'm not sure the Suns could look at this film and think there was much they could glean from it. The Mavs probably aren't going to shoot 31 percent against us.

A missed free throw by Raja against Spurs in regular time with almost no time left that would have given Suns the lead. Don't remember if that win would have contributed to the streak though.
