In 1967, Thomas A. Harris, M.D., wrote a book which was #1 on the Bestseller list for more than a year. It was called "I'm OK - You're OK".

It described the psychology of how people fit into the roles of Parent/Adult/Child (regardless of their age) in Transactional Analysis.

It is interesting how it applies to the Suns roster.

Steve Nash and Grant Hill are the Adults, as well as being the elder statesmen.

Vince Carter (who is the third oldest, but exerts himself only when he feels like it) and Robin Lopez (with his comic book mentality) are the Children.

And who is the Parent? Marcin Gortat made that clear when he arrived and let his teammates know that he expected, among other things, solid defense from them.

'Quite a contrast at Center, considering that Gortat started only 5 games before joining the Suns (and 1 since) and is already making his mark vs. Lopez who has started 68 games with the Suns and is as lost on the court as ever.

I guess I would say that the rest of the roster falls basically into the Adult category, with the exception of Warrick, who is a man-child, despite the fact that I've liked the excitement that he brings to the court.

Of the three Children, we know that Carter was brought here only temporarily and aren't surprised that he acts like a Child. And that Lopez lives in a comic book world. And that, at 219 pounds and with weak defense, Warrick is not our long-term solution as backup Power Forward.

And that Gortat brings something that only the two old guys -- Nash and Hill -- possess. Leadership abilities. I expect that, many years from now, Gortat (just as Bill Cartwright) will be an NBA Assistant Coach and perhaps eventually a Head Coach.

Dr. Harris identified it correctly!
