I think its a bit soon to be saying Reynolds is the guy and will be better than Tracy and/or Jackson, we have no way of knowing. What if the Dbacks move CoJack and Reynolds ends up hitting 265 w/ 3 HRs a few years from now- then what?
Unless Reynolds moves to RF (and that would be temporary until Quinton comes back), the situation is three players hoping for playing time at two positions.
Add Clark, who needs playing time to stay sharp, and you have 3.5 at two positions. Rumors are that's causing discontent among the players.
HooverDam, if D'backs management "has no way of knowing" the projected capabilities and attitudes of Tracy, Reynolds and Jackson at this time, they are inept.
And if they don't have the guts to make a decision and stand by it, they should be removed.
Bob Melvin may or may not know their potential. But he's proven that he does not have the guts to make a decision and give it a chance.
Every two days, he's off on another adventure with his lineup . . . and those constant changes affect the ballplayers emotionally and physically.
My vote is to make Tracy the regular 1B (with Clark platooning at vs. lefty starters) and Reynolds full-time 3B .
Reynolds has shown himself to be an RBI machine with power potential.
Give him the job, and let's see how he does. Even if his batting average becomes inconsistent, he drives in runs.
Our ultimate goal should be a legitimate cleanup hitter at one of the corner positions -- 1B, 3B, LF or RF.
I can't help but feel that if either Chip Hale or Kirk Gibson were the Manager, every day wouldn't be a guessing game with our lineup.
And our team's performance wouldn't be so inconsistent. Winning streak, losing streak, winning streak, losing streak. All season long.
