Editor’s note: IMG Academy has named longtime college assistant coach Greg Studrawa as its new head football coach. Studrawa has more than 20 years of experience as an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at several major college programs including Ohio State, Maryland, LSU, Bowling Green and Arkansas State. He was the offensive line coach at LSU in 2007 when the Tigers won the national championship, and his offenses at Bowling Green were among the top-ranked in the nation. IMG is Studrawa's first head coaching job. Studrawa wrote the following first-person story to explain his vision for IMG, which won a national championship in 2020.

I can’t wait to get started at IMG Academy. When you have that excitement and that motivation behind you, all you want to do is dive in. I want to get on campus and start understanding how the coaches are, how the student-athletes are, and get to know how they play and what they want out of this experience. I realize it’s a big responsibility.

The expectation level you have here is not different from the expectation level at other places I’ve coached at the collegiate level. Don’t lose a game.

I absolutely love it. Embrace the grind. That is my mindset coming in. Don’t just stick your toe in water. Jump in and embrace the process IMG Academy already has in place. I want them to know when we go on the road, this is IMG Academy traveling. We’re going to go put on a show. That’s who we are. Tough. Disciplined. Fundamentally sound. When the game starts, that’s who you’re playing.

Think about it. Do you want to be somewhere where you win one game and you’re happy about it? Not me.

I get it. That’s the expectation level. But you don’t just say, “Win.” Winning is the culture. Winning is the destination. It’s all the things we do with these young men in developing them, earning trust with them, that’s what gets you to win. This program has already developed a strong connection around brotherhood, I’m excited to be around these elite student-athletes. I’m excited to join a team and school that helps prepare student-athletes for life after high school.

While winning is a goal at IMG Academy, the ultimate goal and purpose across campus is to help our student-athletes reach their full potential and get to college. The value of a college roster spot is going up and our job is to educate, support, and prepare our student-athletes and their families to meet the moment. All the people in the interview I spoke with that work with these student-athletes every day from sports medicine to mental performance to nutrition to academics to strength and conditioning. They’re all motivated. They’re all passionate.

IMG Academy has over 500 former college and professional athletes and coaches on its staff across all departments and programs and has 100 specialists focused solely on personal development. It’s unlike anywhere I’ve been before. That’s how I am and what I bring to the table, too. When we’re on the practice field, we’re going to go, and go together with the entire support of IMG Academy. The passion is going to be there. Winning will take care of itself.

From the places I’ve been and experiences I have at major Division-I collegiate programs, I think that gives me credibility to lead the top high school football program. But credibility doesn’t last long if it isn’t backed up. I must earn their respect. Show them we know what we’re doing and everything we do is for them and will benefit them in the future. Show them we care more than anywhere else. Show them this is how we win games through hard work and through IMG Academy’s process. Once they see it working, they’ll buy in wholeheartedly. We have to show up every single day with the same mindset. It’s communication, leadership, confidence, and resilience. Everything we do, we will do together. Everybody has a voice, and you’re going to be treated with respect every day.

Winning a title is a process. Once we buy into all the little things we’re doing, that will lead us there. It’s our goal, but that’s not what we talk about every day.

It’s about the little things you do and how you develop.
