I met Jstadvl only once, and I did so through a unique opportunity that the great people on this website made possible. In this time of economic hardship, and with this sad news, I think it would be a great idea to repeat the incredible feat that I benefited from so long ago.

We held a contest on this board to determine who was in the most economic hardship, and we sent that person to a Cardinals game. We took up a collection from members of the board, and that money went to an entire trip, culminating in the game. I was flown to Arizona, someone donated a hotel room, I was given transportation, and saw the game for free. I think the only thing I payed for was food and drinks.

So, in honor of my only meeting with Jstadvl, and since I am no longer poor, I want to pay it forward. I think we should do this again. Unfortunately, as I'm in Pennsylvania, I can't take point on this project, although I will be happy to donate.

Thoughts?

I remember that. I have a pic of the bunch of us (you standing tall in the back, of course) hanging outside of SDS after the game. I also have a pic of me and "lil dvl," Eddie's daughter, that I took myself (you know, one of those turn-the-camera-the-other-way-and-take-your-own-photo thing). That was an awesome day for me. Great people. Lots of fun.

I think it would be an awesome thing to do. Might be tough with the economy, but maybe people can donate in other ways. I can do some airport transportation and offer up a tailgate invite/ride to the stadium for sure. Will probably have some funds to put up toward the fall.

I can donate a hotel room, no sweat. I got tons of Starpoints that are good at any Sheraton. I've stayed at the one at Dunlap and I 17. Not too bad of a drive to the staduim. I'm sure there is one near the airport too.

just say the word

Any Arizonans (is that right?) willing to take point on this? I mean, I'm happy to be the accountant, but I don't know the right hotels/times/anything about the stadium.

Anyone that wants to pull this together?

If you'll be the accountant, I'll be the travel agent.

So what is the selection criteria?

Once Jersey Girl and I are ready, we will solicit the out-of-area Cards fan and board regular that has fallen on hard times. If I recall correctly, we had a poll last time with the top 10 stories or so, and the board voted on it. I'll message Jersey Girl for details.

Actually, right at this moment, it probably isn't a good idea to start it. We should probably wait until a CBA is agreed to, so that we'll KNOW that we have a game to send the person to. Jersey Girl, that sound all right to you?

I don't post too often here, (lurking is my specialty), but it sounds like a very nice tribute to a guy that I only knew through his posts. I should be able to contribute one R/T flight with my frequent flyer points (unless we pick one of our overseas fans!) assuming that we plan far enough ahead and that we can use American Airlines.

Sounds like a plan. I definitely think we need to wait until the CBA gets straightened out.

Nice thought. You can count on me for a donation. We can fight all the time with each other but in the end we are all dedicated Cardinal fans. If I can help some guy live one of his dreams I will do so. Putting this together will not be all that easy so you are taking on a task of unknown proportion. I have always said I cannot help the world but I can help each person I meet along my path in some way.

What?
The services were very nice today. I didn't have all of the details so only made it for the military ceremony. Here's what I do know happened.

Eddie was dressed in his Cardinal jersey, second hand info I didn't see it.

Patty (Derms wife), Rob (Redforce1) and I were there. It was good to see you guys even though it was short. Lots of friends from his church and family were there as well. Got to talk to his son Eric and daughter Jennifer for a brief time.

It was a full military service since Eddie was a Navy Seal. Three gun salute, taps and the flag folding and presentation to his wife Lisa.

It was very nice but I'm still just saddened he's gone. I'll miss him.
