Although it is NFL draft week, many of the current members of the Indianapolis Colts' roster are reporting for voluntary offseason programs, which began on April 22nd.
As mentioned, these programs are voluntary, and some players will have contract incentives tied to their attendance. Outside of mandatory minicamp, these voluntary programs will run on-and-off through early June.
At this stage of the process, teams won't be on the practice field. According to NFL.com, activities during Phase I of offseason programs include meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehab.
First day: April 22nd
OTA offseason workouts: May 28-30, June 3-5
Mandatory minicamp: June 10-12
Of course, once the Colts are able to hit the practice field, all eyes will be on the quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. As Shane Steichen said during the NFL league meetings, these starting reps will be split between the two to begin.
“It’ll start in the spring,” Steichen said, via Yahoo! Sports. “They’re going to split the (first team) reps through practice and going into training camp, and really, it’s going to come down to who’s the most consistent, who’s the most productive, will be the starter.”
Beyond the quarterback position, the offensive line configuration will be worth noting as well, and we will also get to see this new look defense under Lou Anarumo, which features Charvarius Ward and Cam Bynum in the secondary.
