I wonder if people were just hungry for a good family film. This was very good but not in my top tier Pixar films.man... they accomplished that in about 3 weeks.
I’m not that surprised that it’s huge. Maybe surprised that it’s THIS huge though. But, the first one was really Pixar’s last original that was a smash hit while being universally beloved. And I think people have been dying for any kind of event movie with the slate being light the first half of the year and this came closest to fitting the bill. The box on this one surprised me. I thought it would do well but not this well. That really goes for the international about to hit $700m. $160m more than domestic. For this film I would have thought that domestic would outpace internationals. Good on Pixar for getting something good out that's driving box office.
I'll be interested to see if it keeps up now that Despicable Me 4 is out. At the start of the year I thought that only it and maybe Deadpool would be the only billion dollar films this year.
Yeah, I meant this huge. I was thinking around $800m, maybe $900 on the high end, which would still be huge right now. I just didn't think it would hit the billion mark. I didn't realize there was so much pent up demand that would go to it. I was betting on Despicable Me 4 getting most of that. But with the way it started they're both going to be super huge.I’m not that surprised that it’s huge. Maybe surprised that it’s THIS huge though. I think DP4 under performs a little. Probably tops out at 250-275 mill domestic.Yeah, I meant this huge. I was thinking around $800m, maybe $900 on the high end, which would still be huge right now. After PPV it will get damn close. That's not even including the merch tie ins. Including that this it could blow past a billion. This is a huge win for Disney.Yeah, I meant this huge. Really on DP4? It did $132m with the holiday opening and even Sunday was strong at $21m. I'd expect it to more than double from there. I had been thinking $5-600m domestic with international pushing it over the b mark.I think DP4 under performs a little. Probably tops out at 250-275 mill domestic.
It’s got another couple weeks before Marvel comes back to annihilate everyone in the market with Deadpool v. Wolverine.
Sorry, those numbers in my last post were what I had been speculating before it came out. It's already passed a billion and is sitting at about 1.2b.After PPV it will get damn close. Yeah I knew globally. I was referring to domestic. I posted global above. This thing is going to make a lot more than just box office when you add all the merch turning and PPV, disc sales etc.Really on DP4? And yup, then everything else is dead once Deadpool hits.

No way it gets close to 500. It’s already projected to drop to 33 million this weekend. And also, it was 122 million and that wasn’t for the 3 day, it was for 5 days as they released it Wednesday before the holiday. First 5 days for Out 2 was 205 million, and that’s a Friday - Tuesday run, with no holiday thrown in there.Really on DP4? It did $132m with the holiday opening and even Sunday was strong at $21m. Way back reference. Loved that show.Glad to see that the animated Herman's Head 2 did well for Pixar.

This is gonna be way wrong. Despicable had a pretty impressive 2nd weekend hold of -40% and is already at 211 million domestic, with big weekday grosses. This easily clears 300 with the edge on the kids market for another 10 days before Deadpoolverine comes out.
Also, how has no one coined that portmanteau yet?
