Jul 7 - The Miami Herald reports Alonzo Mourning, appearing on ABC's The View on Thursday, said he hasn't decided whether to play next season."I'm on such a high right now," he said. "I'm really enjoying the moment. I'm not thinking about basketball right now."

Jul 7 - The Houston Chronicle reports Rockets GM Carroll Dawson emerged from his meeting with Mike James on Thursday without his primary free-agent target but with a sense he could be close to bringing James back to the Rockets."It was a good meeting," Dawson told the newspaper. "Hopefully, we'll have a decision tomorrow. We feel pretty good about it."

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports James said Thursday that the Wolves are one of three teams he's still considering.
"Minnesota is definitely one of my top choices," James told the newspaper. "They have one of the best players in the NBA in Kevin Garnett. I've been a fan of Kevin since I've been in the game. It would be an honor for me to play with somebody like that, because I think he thinks like me as far as how I approach the game, and he would bring out the best in me."

Jul 7 - A source told the Rocky Mountain News that Sacramento has offered Bonzi Wells a five-year contract worth about $36 million, but Wells wants more. According to the newspaper, the Nuggets are interested in Wells but can't offer more than a five-year, $30 million deal.

No Truth To Jazz-Sonics Rumor
Jul 7 - The Deseret Morning News reports a rumor out of Seattle suggesting the Jazz have discussed a possible sign-and-trade that would send Carlos Boozer to the Sonics for Chris Wilcox and Robert Swift is believed to be wholly unfounded. According to the newspaper, the Jazz are not among the nine teams that reportedly have expressed interest in Wilcox, either.In related news ...
The Chicago Sun-Times reports the next name on Chicago Bulls GM John Paxson's wish list is Wilcox. However as the newspaper points out, their best chance of landing him will be through a sign-and-trade deal with Seattle and that is unlikely.

Jul 7 - The Washington Times reports negotiations between the Wizards and Jared Jeffries have reached an impasse and no new negotiations are scheduled."I would characterize the talks as both sides making an effort, but as of today it looks as if those efforts have been futile," agent Andy Miller told the newspaper yesterday.
The newspaper also reports the Wizards, at least for now, don't appear to be interested in doing a sign-and-trade, despite that fact that Philadelphia and Phoenix are believed to have approached them.

Jul 7 - Mike Higgins, the agent for Marcus Banks told the Las Vegas Review-Journal yesterday that his client, who has two offers from NBA teams, would prefer to re-sign with the Timberwolves. Banks is seeking a five-year deal."I'm shooting for financial security," Banks told the newspaper. "The money definitely comes into play. But I trust Mike completely."

Jul 7 - The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reports the Bulls haven't ruled out re-signing Darius Songaila.Agent Mark Bartelstein told the newspaper that he stays in touch with Bulls GM John Paxson and listed Cleveland, Denver, San Antonio, Sacramento, Seattle and Washington among the teams interested in Songaila.

Jul 7 - The Willoughby News-Herald reports the Cavaliers are possibly pursuing Anthony Parker, who played for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel the last two years.It has also been reported that the Toronto Raptors have interest in Parker, too.

I still don't get the Suns' interest in Jeffries from a cap perspective. He's probably worth $4 or $5 mil a year, and probably asking for $6 to 8 mil per for 5 years.

From a basketball perspective, Jeffries can guard 1 through 4, but has no range on his J. He would be the third guy off the bench, at best, because of his offensive limitations.

He would help, but I can't see acquiring a guy that doesn't fit the long-term aspirations of this team, and creates problems signing your own players like Diaw.

I still don't get the Suns' interest in Jeffries from a cap perspective.

I believe David Aldridge called that rumor in.

One team that does have serious interest in Jeffries is the Spurs--they need a 'long three' for defense, and they don't care whether they score any points. I don't see what they have to offer in return, though.
