The Eagles have spent the off-season signing players with something to prove to one-year deals, and Howie Roseman just inked a wide receiver with tons of potential. Philadelphia has agreed to a one-year contract with Terrace Marshall Jr, which could prove fruitful for both parties.

The former LSU star pass catcher was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He appeared in 13 games as a rookie and recorded 17 receptions for 138 receiving yards. Marshall finished his second season (2022) with 28 receptions for 490 receiving yards and one touchdown in 14 games.

With the news not yet official, we're looking at instant analysis of the move.

Terrace Marshall Jr. has struggled

Last summer, the underperforming Marshall Jr. was waived after two seasons in Carolina and spent time in 2024 on the 49ers' practice squad before getting waived and landing in Las Vegas with the Raiders. Marshall Jr. played 14 offensive snaps but was not targeted in the Raiders' Week 18 loss to the Chargers, closing out his 2024 campaign with three catches for 41 yards on six targets across seven games.

Terrace Marshall Jr. has a lot to prove

Marshall is still only 24 years old, so the 2021 second-round pick will look to compete for a roster spot again in 2025 on an Eagles team that has A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson as the top three players at the position. The fourth or fifth wide receiver spot could be a battle between Marshll Jr., Johnny Wilson, and Ainias Smith.

Terrace Marshall was special at LSU

One of the top receivers in school history, Marshall Jr. was a likely first-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft before slipping to Round 2. Marshall Jr. appeared in 32 games during his LSU career, making 20 starts and 106 career receptions for 1,594 yards and 23 touchdowns (Tied for No. 4 in school history).

He's one of only six players in LSU history with 1,500 receiving yards and 20 TDs to his credit.

Family History in Louisiana

His uncle, Joe Delaney, played in the NFL and died in 1983 attempting to rescue three children from drowning in a pond, before Marshall was born. In a story from Brooks Kubena, it's revealed that Marshall wears a constant reminder of his great-uncle on the chain around his neck.

Eagles showed the most 2021 predraft interest in Marshall Jr.

Back in 2021, the Eagles needed help at the wide receiver position, and Marshall Jr. was the player to watch. With Ja’Marr Chase opting out that season, Marshall was allowed to put his talents on full display for LSU. During the 2019 season, when Chase and Justin Jefferson both went for over 1,000 yards, Marshall logged 46 receptions for 671 yards and 13 touchdowns. During the 2020 season, Marshall caught 48 passes for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns in seven games before opting out with no more to prove.
